Security represents one of the most critical priorities for our customers in a world awash in digital threats, regulatory scrutiny, and estate complexity. The Office of the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) is accountable for managing and prioritizing cybersecurity risks for Microsoft. This team oversees the company’s overall cyber defense, including the security of Microsoft products and business operations, and collaborates with Engineering teams to advance Secure Future Initiative (SFI) objectives.

Security is a core priority for Microsoft, and Identity and Access Management protections are essential to protecting Microsoft at global scale. We are looking for a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a high-performing team of Software Engineers, building the next generation of cloud-native platform services that power Microsoft's tenant management and identity ecosystem. This role combines deep technical leadership with people leadership to deliver highly scalable distributed systems, modern engineering platforms, intelligent automation, and AI-native engineering practices that strengthen Microsoft's security posture while simplifying engineering operations



Responsibilities
  • Lead, coach, and grow a high-performing team of Software Engineers building secure, cloud-native platform services that power Microsoft's tenant lifecycle management, orchestration, identity governance, and application governance capabilities.
  • Define the engineering vision, technical strategy, and architecture for next-generation platform capabilities spanning tenant lifecycle automation, workflow orchestration, and AI-enabled engineering experiences.
  • Drive the design and delivery of scalable distributed systems, APIs, platform services, and data-driven solutions that improve security, operational efficiency, and developer productivity.
  • Partner across engineering, product, identity, security, data, and infrastructure teams to translate customer needs into integrated platform capabilities while driving cross-organizational execution.
  • Champion engineering excellence by fostering AI-native software development, modern engineering practices, secure-by-design principles, high-quality architecture, testing, code quality, and operational readiness.
  • Lead platform modernization through cloud-native architectures, API-first design, Infrastructure as Code, automation, CI/CD, observability, and data-driven engineering practices.
  • Establish operational excellence by building resilient services with comprehensive monitoring, telemetry, live-site readiness, incident management, and continuous service improvements.
  • Drive execution across multiple engineering investments by managing technical priorities, dependencies, resources, and delivery commitments while balancing long-term platform strategy with near-term business objectives.
  • Build an inclusive, high-performing engineering culture by attracting, developing, and mentoring exceptional talent while empowering engineers to innovate, collaborate, and grow.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years of technical engineering experience designing and building large-scale software systems with coding experience in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++ or C#
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of people management experience leading high-performing Software Engineering teams delivering cloud-native applications, distributed systems, platform services, or enterprise engineering platforms.
  • Proven experience designing, building, and operating highly available, mission-critical distributed systems or cloud-native platform services at enterprise scale.
  • Experience leading engineering organizations through architecture evolution, platform modernization, and delivery of complex technical initiatives using modern engineering practices, including secure software development, CI/CD, automated testing, observability, and operational excellence.
  • Demonstrated success driving cross-organizational execution and influencing engineering strategy across multiple teams and stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years of technical engineering experience
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • 6+ years of people management experience leading multiple engineering teams.
  • Experience building enterprise-scale identity, security, governance, tenant management, or platform engineering solutions.
  • Experience building and operating cloud-native services using Microsoft Azure, Kubernetes, containers, distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and modern platform engineering practices.
  • Experience leading platform modernization initiatives involving workflow orchestration, automation frameworks, platform APIs, infrastructure as code, and developer platforms.
  • Experience driving engineering excellence through architecture governance, engineering quality, reliability engineering, telemetry, observability, live-site operations, and continuous improvement.
  • Experience leading AI-native engineering transformations by integrating AI-assisted development, intelligent automation, and data-driven engineering practices throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence long-term technical strategy and build trusted partnerships across engineering, product, identity, security, infrastructure, and executive leadership.
  • Proven track record of attracting, developing, and retaining diverse engineering talent while building an inclusive, high-performing engineering culture.
