The Azure Core New Tech team is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to evolve the software platform that accepts new racks into Microsoft datacenters. We build the hardware acceptance software used in factories and datacenters to determine whether racks are ready for production. Our platform verifies that hardware is assembled, cabled, configured, and inventoried to meet Microsoft’s business requirements, turning diagnostic results into clear actions. This enables Microsoft to adopt new hardware quickly while maintaining quality and security across Azure, High-Performance Computing, and Office.

Responsibilities
- Lead features from proposal and architectural design through implementation, testing, rollout, production monitoring, and refinement.
- Translate evolving hardware and operational requirements into clear workflows and rollout plans.
- Improve the concurrency, reliability, maintainability, observability, and performance of long-running workflows.
- Use operational data to identify systemic issues, reduce manual toil, improve diagnostic quality, and shorten end-to-end delivery time.
- Collaborate with software, hardware, networking, firmware, driver, manufacturing, and datacenter teams to resolve system-level problems and define clear integration contracts.
- Write clear technical documentation, guide engineering decisions, and mentor engineers through design and implementation tradeoffs

Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript or Python OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements: Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science - OR related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript or Python OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript or Python OR equivalent experience.
- 3+ years owning substantial software scenarios through design, implementation, and rollout.
- 3+ years driving platform improvements based on data, observations during on-call/DRI, and customer feedback.
- 3+ years working across teams on integration, rollout plans, and alignment, including experience initiating changes that improved the final product.
- 2+ years of experience developing production software in a managed, object-oriented language such as C# or Java, including understanding of object-oriented design, composition, inheritance, interfaces, and component-based architecture.
- 1+ year of experience with hardware validation automation, provisioning workflows, or networking concepts, including specific protocols and devices.
- Experience diagnosing production issues using logs, metrics, traces, memory dumps, or other runtime evidence and delivering a lasting corrective change.
Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
