Senior Software Engineering - Azure Monitor
Software Engineering
Tel Aviv-Yafo, Israel · Herzliya, Israel
Azure Monitor provides deep observability into applications and infrastructure running on Azure and beyond. Its portfolio of massively scaled platforms and solutions monitors the health, performance, and reliability of systems across IaaS, Kubernetes, PaaS, SaaS, and diverse client environments - transforming telemetry into actionable insights.
The Azure Copilot Observability Agent team in Microsoft's Israel R&D center builds and evolves the core agents that power Azure Monitor observability. These agents collect, process, and reliably analyze logs, metrics, and traces at massive scale while operating under strict performance, reliability, security, and resource constraints. We develop high-performance, cloud-native software using modern architectures and cutting-edge AI technologies to deliver accurate, efficient, secure, and always-available solutions.
We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to lead complex technical initiatives and help build AI-powered systems that operate at high scale and meet enterprise-grade requirements.
Responsibilities
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Copilot Observability Agent team, you will:
• Architect, design, and build high-performance agents covering LLM and agent orchestration, tool use, grounding and retrieval, evaluation and system reliability, safety, latency and cost.
• Lead complex features and technical initiatives throughout their full lifecycle, from requirements and architecture through implementation, testing, deployment, and production operations.
• Solve challenging engineering problems involving massive scale, reliability, performance, resource efficiency, security, and fault tolerance.
• Drive technical direction and make sound architectural decisions that balance immediate requirements with long-term maintainability and evolution.
• Establish and promote high-quality engineering practices, including effective design reviews, testing strategies, operational readiness, and production diagnostics.
• Collaborate with engineering and product teams across Microsoft to integrate the agent with a broad range of products, platforms, and customer scenarios.
• Own critical components end-to-end and ensure the timely delivery of robust, production-ready solutions.
• Mentor engineers, provide technical guidance, and help strengthen the team's engineering capabilities.
• Use AI-assisted engineering tools and practices to improve development velocity, software quality, and innovation.
Qualifications
- You have at least 7+ years of hands-on software engineering experience, including significant experience building and operating large-scale production systems.
- BSc or MSc in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Proven ability to design and deliver complex, reliable, maintainable, and high-performance software systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- You are experience with cloud-native platforms, distributed systems, or modern microservice architectures.
- Experience with observability, telemetry pipelines, agents, SDKs, or system-level programming.
- Experience optimizing software for performance, memory, CPU, network usage, or other constrained environments.
- Experience with C#/.NET, Kubernetes/AKS, Kusto/ADX
- Experience developing services or components for Microsoft Azure or another large-scale cloud platform.
- Experience with security, privacy, and compliance requirements in enterprise software.
- Experience with building and evaluating LLM-based agentic systems.
- Experience leading substantial technical projects or features across multiple development stages and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ownership of production systems, including reliability, monitoring, troubleshooting, and operational excellence.
- High attention to detail and a strong commitment to engineering quality.
This position will be open for a minimum of 5 days, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis until the position is filled.
