Microsoft Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (CHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding cloud infrastructure and plays a critical role in delivering the company’s Intelligent Cloud mission. CHIE provides the foundational technologies, infrastructure, security, compliance, and operational solutions that support Microsoft’s global cloud services, including Azure and many of the company’s largest online platforms.

As Microsoft’s cloud business continues to grow, the ability to deploy new hardware infrastructure and services efficiently, reliably, and at scale is increasingly important. The Cloud Readiness Criteria (CRC) team plays a key role in defining and delivering software solutions, including agentic AI capabilities, that improve hardware and firmware readiness, deployment quality, and operational efficiency across the fleet.

We are seeking experienced engineers who are passionate about building customer-focused solutions and leveraging industry knowledge, data, and technology to design and implement the next generation of systems that optimize and manage Microsoft’s cloud infrastructure.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and deliver software solutions that measure, improve, and validate the quality of Azure hardware, helping ensure reliable and scalable cloud services that meet customer expectations.
  • Focus on delivering high-quality customer experiences through reliable, efficient, and scalable software solutions.
  • Identify and resolve systemic issues, contributing to the design and implementation of new architectures, standards, and engineering practices for large-scale distributed systems.
  • Collaborate with hardware architects, program managers, and engineering teams to validate and enable next-generation Azure hardware platforms.
  • Solve critical service reliability, operational, and quality challenges through software automation and data-driven engineering solutions.
  • Design, prototype, evaluate, and implement innovative solutions that improve hardware readiness, operational efficiency, and cloud infrastructure quality as business needs evolve.



Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of software development experience with demonstrated expertise in technical design and developing web applications, including web APIs using C# and user interfaces using React and TypeScript.

Other Requirements:

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Experience developing enterprise-scale applications using C# and .NET technologies.
  • Experience with Azure cloud services, including Azure App Service, Azure Functions, or other cloud-native development platforms.
  • Experience with Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) tools such as Azure DevOps.
  • Experience with predictive analytics, machine learning, or Generative AI technologies.
  • Experience building and supporting distributed systems and modernizing legacy applications.
  • Experience applying data mining, statistics, analytics, or mathematical modeling techniques to solve business or engineering problems.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze complex technical systems, troubleshoot issues, and drive technical solutions.
  • Proven sense of ownership and accountability throughout the software development lifecycle.

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $160,200 - $261,000 per year.
