We are looking for a Principal Product Manager to join the Microsoft Discovery team. You will play an integral role in defining and executing a new vision for AI-driven science platform development. This opportunity will allow you to accelerate your career growth, expand domain impact, and deliver at a startup pace. This is a Redmond, WA or Mountain View, CA based position, with an expectation that you will be available to collaborate in person on campus.

Responsibilities
As a Principal Product Manager with an entrepreneurial mindset, you will play an integral role in defining and executing a new vision for AI-driven science platform development. In this role, you will work with cross-functional teams of product managers, engineers, designers, scientists, and researchers to build new product experiences, shape underlying AI capabilities that support these experiences, and foster a culture of innovation and high-craft product making.
You will influence others to drive business impact across the organization and track success criteria for multiple feature areas across divisions. You’ll also be an expert in identifying long-term investment opportunities and engaging partners to garner support for those feature areas.
You will define a feature set and facilitate senior-level usability reviews with customers. You’ll own the roadmap for multiple feature areas across divisions, and will collaborate with a partner team to build golden configurations and drive scenario walkthroughs.
You will scale Product Marketing teams by building marketing and roll-out plans, as well as leading the creation of customer support plans. You’ll also take advantage of major opportunities to promote the feature areas you worked on and present at large events.
As an expert, you will partner with others to collect performance metrics and form hypotheses for complex technical needs in order to improve product development in multiple areas. You’ll also identify features to deprecate, manage customer communities, and build trust with targeted customers across sectors.
Qualifications
Required/minimum qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree AND 8+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development
- OR equivalent experience.
Other Requirements
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Additional or preferred qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree AND 12+ years experience in product/service/program management or software development
- OR equivalent experience.
- 4+ years experience taking a product, feature, or experience to market (e.g., design, addressing product market fit, and launch, internal tool/framework).
- 6+ years experience improving product metrics for a product, feature, or experience in a market (e.g., growing customer base, expanding customer usage, avoiding customer churn).
- 6+ years experience disrupting a market for a product, feature, or experience (e.g., competitive disruption, taking the place of an established competing product).
- 4+ years experience shipping production-ready code as a result of a collaborative process
- Experience as a full stack builder
- Experience developing with the latest AI-assisted development tools and systems
- Experience in scientific R&D, particularly in chemistry and materials science, bio and life-sciences, or silicon and physics.
- Track record of setting strategy and converting it into executed, measurable outcomes across multiple planning cycles.
- Proven organizational skills with a track record of managing complex, multi‑team programs.
- Demonstrable cross-functional leadership and communication; able to influence engineering and partner teams without direct authority.
- Experience defining product strategy using customer insights, data, and experimentation.
- Experience partnering directly with enterprise customers to identify unmet needs and validate product direction.
- Familiarity with modern AI technologies, agents, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), automation, or workflow orchestration.
- Passion for building products that help customers achieve meaningful business outcomes at global scale.

Product Management IC5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $142,800 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
