Overview

Microsoft 365 is the world’s leading productivity service, trusted by hundreds of millions of users worldwide. Microsoft 365 Core Platform is at the center of it all. We are building foundational intelligent productivity services, including Copilot, for enterprises spanning emails, calendars, files and messages. Building and running services for all of Microsoft 365 is both impactful and rewarding. The experiences built on top of our platform positively impact the lives of millions of people around the world, empowering them to do more and achieve more.

The Microsoft 365 Core team is responsible for ensuring that the M365 services are always highly available, resilient, durable, performant, compliant and efficient. As Copilot, Agent 365 and Microsoft Graph accelerate into new agentic and AI-driven scenarios, the demands on our platform are changing faster than ever. We are looking for a Principal Product Manager to own the product vision and strategy for M365 Fleet Infrastructure, including Data Availability, Durability, Reliability, Data Protection, Resource Efficiency, Capacity Modeling, Infra Provisioning and Decommissioning, Platform Degradations, and Modernization via Azure. This role requires someone who can think in systems, operate at executive altitude, and drive alignment across a large, matrixed organization — translating deep platform complexity into clear strategic direction for engineering and partner teams. The primary lens for everything this role owns is enabling the platform to scale for the AI and agentic era.

Microsoft’s mission is to empower every person and every organization on the planet to achieve more. As employees we come together with a growth mindset, innovate to empower others, and collaborate to realize our shared goals. Each day we build on our values of respect, integrity, and accountability to create a culture of inclusion where everyone can thrive at work and beyond.

Responsibilities
  • Work with core M365 platform engineering teams to deliver a secure, continuously available, durable, performant, and hyperscale storage platform operated cost- effectively — enabling best-in-class experiences for M365 product customers and Copilot-era AI workloads.

  • Define and drive the platform's evolution to support agentic and AI growth: identifying where current architecture creates retrieval latency, freshness, or capacity constraints for Copilot, Agent 365, and Microsoft Graph — and owning the roadmap to close those gaps ahead of demand.

  • Craft a compelling product vision and multi-year strategy for M365 Fleet Infrastructure. Use AI-informed analysis, platform telemetry, and partner signals to rally engineering and leadership around a coherent direction.

  • Take end-to-end ownership of key business scenarios — from problem definition and investment framing through technical solution design, partner adoption strategy, and measurable outcomes. Drive clarity in ambiguous spaces and alignment across team and leadership.

  • Integrate AI-informed analysis into strategic feature prioritization and investment decisions, with roadmap alignment tied directly to organizational and AI growth objectives.

  • Define Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), Quality of Service (QoS) targets, and Service Level Agreements (SLA) metrics for platform areas owned. Track and report progress against them with rigor; use data to drive continuous strategy refinement.

  • Enable the Microsoft 365 division to build and run services that power AI and Copilot capabilities by ensuring the M365 core platform meets the performance, reliability, and feature requirements of a diverse and growing customer set.

  • Modernize and improve resource utilization efficiency of M365 core platform services, leveraging Azure primitives to evolve the platform while managing continuity and blast radius.

  • Drive cross-group collaboration across M365 to align on priorities and deliver outcomes that depend on partner divisions.

  • Communicate platform strategy and investment rationale to senior decision-makers — Chief Vice President and Executive Vice President level — in a clear, compelling, and business-outcome-oriented way.

  • Experience with AI or agentic workload patterns — retrieval-augmented generation, semantic search, vector or graph storage, stateful agent context — and how platform design choices affect AI product quality and AI user experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence cross-group strategy and drive alignment across large, matrixed organizations without direct authority, including at senior engineering and business leadership levels.
