Platform Engineer

WideOrbit is seeking a Platform Engineer to help design, build, and maintain our internal developer platform. In this role, you’ll be instrumental in developing and continuously improving the services and infrastructure that power our engineering teams. You’ll enable self-service, automation, and streamlined workflows that enhance the software development lifecycle, boost developer productivity, and support the scalability and reliability of our products. This role collaborates closely with development, security, and operations teams to drive forward our platform vision.

Here is what you’ll be doing:
- Design, develop, and maintain core platform components and infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) principles (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible).
- Build and operate self-service tools and workflows for application deployment, monitoring, logging, and scaling.
- Implement and manage containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and orchestration platforms.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines that are efficient, secure, and scalable.
- Implement and enforce platform security best practices and integrate security tools into the platform.
- Design and implement robust monitoring, alerting, and observability solutions for the platform.
- Troubleshoot and resolve platform-related issues, collaborating with development teams as needed.
- Contribute to the definition and evolution of our platform architecture and roadmap.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in platform engineering and cloud-native development.
- You have the ability to work effectively under pressure and balance competing tasks in a rapidly changing environment
- Participate in on-call rotation during day PST hours.
Here is what we’re looking for:
- 5+ years of experience in DevOps, Infrastructure engineering, or Platform engineering roles
- Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation, Ansible).
- Strong experience with at least one major cloud provider (GCP or AWS preferred).
- OS is just one part of the ecosystem –you're well versed in the rest (networking, storage, DBs, etc).
- Terraform, Packer, CloudFormation, Ansible, Chef, Helm – you know where each is strong and weak
- Experience designing and implementing CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Github Actions, Team City, Octopus, Jenkins)
- Bash, Python, Go, Perl, Ruby – you know which one to use and when.
- Experience designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large-scale distributed systems.
- Containerization experience required. Serverless Technologies nice-to-have.
- Prometheus, Grafana, LogicMonitor, Solarwinds, DataDog – you know that observability is imperative to success.
- A strong understanding of security best practices in cloud environments.
- Contributions to open-source projects is nice-to-have.
- Experience with GitOps principles is preferred.
- Meets all team deadlines and responsibilities, listens to others and values opinions, helps leadership to meet goals, enjoys sharing knowledge, cross training, and is strong in documentation
- Know how to be resourceful to resolve problems and seek answers independently while raising your hand and engaging internal resources when you identify limitations about what you’re able to accomplish independently.
- Tackles problems and takes independent action, seeks out new responsibilities, acts on opportunities, generates new ideas, and practices self-development.

Location: This position can be based in any of our offices. Remote/Telecommute will also be considered.
Pay Range: $110,000 - $140,000 + Variable Bonus
Compensation:
The compensation range listed, and general description of other compensation and benefits will apply to this position. Various factors are considered to determine compensation ranges including market data, location, experience, qualifications, and skills. WideOrbit reserves the right to pay more or less than the salary and benefit information posted.
