The Role

As the Manager of Solutions Engineering for Africa, you will lead a team of Solutions Engineers who partner closely with our Sales organisation to help customers solve complex application delivery and security challenges.

You will be responsible for setting the direction for the team, developing your people, and ensuring the Solutions Engineering organisation is aligned to support F5's business goals across the region. Success in this role comes from building a strong, engaged team, working closely with Sales and cross-functional partners, and helping customers realise the value of F5's solutions.

What You’ll Do

Lead and develop the team

  • Uphold F5's Business Code of Ethics and promptly report any violations of the Code or company policies.

  • Lead, coach and develop the Africa Solutions Engineering team through regular feedback, mentoring and career development.

  • Manage day-to-day team activities, including performance reviews, development plans, time-off approvals and workload planning.

  • Recruit, interview and onboard new Solutions Engineers in partnership with Human Resources.

  • Set clear objectives and priorities for the team and ensure they remain aligned with regional and company goals.

  • Work with leadership on quarterly and annual headcount planning to ensure the team can support the needs of the business.

Build an effective Solutions Engineering organisation

  • Create a collaborative environment where knowledge sharing, teamwork and continuous learning are encouraged.

  • Support both the technical and professional development of your team.

  • Build strong working relationships with Sales, Professional Services, Customer Support, Marketing and Product Management.

  • Help shape career development, skills planning, recognition and retention across the Solutions Engineering organisation.

  • Ensure the team has the right skills, resources and structure to support current and future business needs.

Partner with customers and the business

  • Support your team on strategic customer opportunities and executive engagements when needed.

  • Ensure the Solutions Engineering team delivers an excellent customer experience throughout the sales cycle.

  • Work closely with Sales to understand customer challenges and position F5 solutions that address their business and technical requirements.

  • Present F5's strategy, solution portfolio and product roadmap to customers, partners and internal stakeholders.

  • Partner with Customer Support and Professional Services to help resolve complex customer issues and ensure successful outcomes.

Contribute to business strategy

  • Identify market trends, customer requirements and competitive activity, sharing insights with Sales and Product Management.

  • Provide technical and commercial guidance to support strategic sales opportunities.

  • Help shape the future direction of the Solutions Engineering organisation as the business continues to grow.

What You'll Need

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

  • Experience leading and developing technical pre-sales or Solutions Engineering teams.

  • Strong understanding of networking technologies, application delivery and cybersecurity.

  • A proven ability to coach, motivate and develop technical professionals.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to a range of audiences.

  • Strong relationship-building skills and the ability to work effectively across Sales, Product Management, Professional Services and Customer Support.

  • Commercial awareness and the ability to balance customer needs with business priorities.

  • Self-motivated, collaborative and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
