BIG-IP Software Test Architect
Job Profile
The position of BIG-IP Test Architect works closely with architectural and development teams to ensure systems test architectures are developed in line with the vision and future direction of the product lines and company. Management of the project test strategies and its workflows. Serves as mentor to all engineering levels. Partners with management on driving product timelines. Participates on cross-functional design projects, serving as consultant to top management in long-range company test planning. Work on new or projected areas of technological research/advancement. Presents in both internal and external settings on platform test strategies and technical advancements. Projects long term technical direction.
Primary Responsibilities
- Responsible for upholding F5’s Business Code of Ethics and for promptly reporting violations of the Code or other company policies.
- Responsible for strategic vision of BIG-IP test methodologies from the systems prototype stage to production and customer deployments. Serves as technical lead to detail all aspects of software test strategies, test specifications, and test plans to ensure all items in the design specification have been met.
- Leads, reviews, and directs the key architectural components of F5's Big-IP software, and general product architecture.
- Performs analysis to define design requirements for modification to existing tools, utilities, system structures, environments and determines project scope and estimating activities
- Project Management responsibilities: Serves as primary source of technical expertise to a project test team and is a mentor for junior staff members.
- Sets the direction and assists test managers on the workflow of other engineers within the scope of assigned projects.
- Recommends and maintains technical design methodologies, processes and standards
- Interacts with top management and senior external personnel, serving as spokesperson on company’s technical capabilities and future direction
- Support upper management as needed
Qualifications
- 15+ years’ experience in the development of computer software in areas relevant to F5 product line
- BS/BA in Computer Science or related field or equivalent work experience.
Skills Requirements
- The position Internally and externally recognized as an industry-wide expert in the technology field
- Expert knowledge and extensive experience with BIG-IP
- Expert knowledge and extensive experience with, software testing, platform testing, CI/CD pipeline methodologies, secure software development practices and vulnerability management
- Expert knowledge and extensive experience with network and web technologies (IP, TCP, HTTP, SSL)
- Strong development experience on Unix/Linux based systems
- Experience leading complex product development test initiatives from concept through release
- Exceptional problem solving/project management skills
- Strong leadership skills, and an ability to mentor and groom other engineers
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Able to collaborate and thrive in a fast-paced high-performance environment
- Able to speak and inform in public cross team meetings
- Recognized industry expert within the field. Job focus is on future product enhancement. Increased interaction with executive level. Able to articulate product road map and technical differentiators to a wide audience.
- Ability to technically influence and lead future direction
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Duties are performed in an office environment while sitting at a desk or computer table. This position requires the ability to use a computer keyboard, communicate over the telephone, and read printed material. Duties may require working outside normal working hours (evenings and weekends) at times.

The annual base pay for this position is: $214,400.00 - $321,600.00F5 maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, geographic locations, and market conditions, as well as to reflect F5’s differing products, industries, and lines of business. The pay range referenced is as of the time of the job posting and is subject to change.
