The Product Manager plays a pivotal role in product development for F5’s App Security product portfolio. This position requires an in-depth understanding of market dynamics in Cybersecurity as well as strong leadership, communication skills, partnering and analytical abilities, to help build a shared vision and execute to establish a market leading position for F5’s Web Application and API Protection (WAAP) portfolio.
F5 is seeking a Product Manager to drive the vision, strategy, and roadmap for Web Application Firewall (WAF) capabilities in our Distributed Cloud WAAP portfolio. This role is instrumental in delivering next-generation application security as a globally scalable SaaS offering, protecting Web and API traffic from OWASP threats, abuse, zero-day exploits, and L7 DDoS. With the increasing use of AI in applications, you will get to be a part of defining new ways to protect these advanced applications.
As the WAF Product Manager within the Distributed Cloud team, you will be responsible for advancing capabilities to protect applications. You will collaborate cross-functionally with threat researchers, engineering, UX, GTM teams, and customers to create an intelligent and highly usable security platform for modern SecOps teams.
Primary Responsibilities
Product Delivery:
- Own the end-to-end product strategy for key areas within our Web Application Firewall (WAF) offering in the F5 Distributed Cloud Platform.
- Define, prioritize, and deliver features.
- Collaborate with engineering to build scalable WAF engines optimized for global performance and low-latency mitigation.
- Partner with Threat Research & AI/ML teams to integrate LLMs, behavioral detection, ML and anomaly models into protection logic.
- Work closely with UX to deliver a user experience that empowers the SecOps users.
- Support go-to-market execution, documentation, training, and enablement for field, partners, and customers.
- Measure product success using data-driven KPIs (adoption, effectiveness, false positives, customer satisfaction etc).
- Collaborate with F5’s broader portfolio (BIG-IP, NGINX) for unified WAAP positioning.
- Ensure accountability for product success and present data-backed findings during business reviews and QBRs
Customer Engagement & Feedback:
- Engage with customers to understand their goals, constraints, and requirements
- Prioritize product capabilities based on customer feedback and business value
Market Analysis:
- Position F5 WAF offering with a competitive edge in the market
- Validate market demand based on customer usage
- Conduct in-depth research to stay abreast of developments in Application Security
Team Collaboration:
- Collaborate with stakeholders to make informed decisions on product backlog prioritization
- Foster strong relationships with engineering, sales, marketing, and customer support teams
- Work with technical teams to ensure seamless product rollouts
- Work with key decision makers in marketing and sales to ensure smoot product delivery to customers
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Technical Skills:
- Proficient with Application Security products such as Web Application Firewalls, DDoS protection, API Security, Bot protection or proxies & corresponding core security and networking concepts
- Well versed with Threat Intelligence and Threat Research domains
- Knowledgeable about the needs of the SecOps user persona with respect to delivering and securing Applications and APIs.
- Familiar with LLM, Machine Learning, Anomaly Detection and key data science concepts
- Well versed with SaaS security services and approaches
Stakeholder Management:
- Demonstrate strong leadership, negotiation, and persuasion capabilities
- Effectively manage and navigate expectations from diverse stakeholder groups
- Uphold a data-driven approach amidst a fast-paced, changing environment
Analytical Skills:
- Ability to generate data-driven reports and transform complex data into actionable insights
- Proven skills in data analytics and making data-backed decisions
- Strong awareness of technology trends and potential influence on F5’s business
Qualifications
- BA/BS degree in a engineering or a relevant field is required
- Cybersecurity technical background is required
- Prior software development or technical experience is required
- 5+ years of product management in Cybersecurity
- MBA preferred
