Position Summary
The Principal Technical Program Manager is an experienced leader with exemplary communication skills, expertise working cross-departmentally, and has the ability to influence and lead others to execute on a clear and unified vision. The Principal Technical Program Manager is responsible for the continued management and development of technical platforms enabling F5’s existing and new business models.
This position requires a unique blend of technical and business skills including transformational system and enterprise experience, recent delivery experience with IT systems, vendor management, risk and issue management, and excellent executive and stakeholder communications.
Primary Responsibilities
- Collaborate with business & technology stakeholders to define cross-functional work
- Negotiate competing priorities and navigate complex organizational dynamics to establish delivery plans, forecasts, and budgets
- Facilitate cross-functional engineering teams to solve business problems and deliver solutions
- Bring the product vision and the technical build together – be the glue between functional teams
- Communicate complex technical challenges and resolutions to leadership and other stakeholders
- Establish business processes and policies as well as metrics and indicators for success
- Develop, report, and continually improve performance metrics
- Proactively identify and resolve strategic issues that may impair the team’s ability to meet strategic, financial, and technical goals
- Work closely with and effectively with company leaders and stakeholder departments to architect, build and drive an organization-wide strategy.
- Establishes a unique vision for the future of the organization and actively gains support across the enterprise in support of this vision.
- Demonstrates full ownership and complete autonomy in owned projects and functional areas and drives the delivery of high-quality results. Create strategies for risk mitigation and contingency planning.
- Oversee third party deliverables on projects where necessary; efficiently identify and resolve program issues; and design and maintain technical and project documentation
- Supports the development of high-performing global teams for successfully managing complex and wide-ranging programs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Develop strong relationships to engage, align, and motivate people to deliver
- Bring a unique blend of business and technical savvy: a big-picture vision, the drive to make that vision a reality, and technical credibility to engage with software engineers
- Maintain and continue to develop a broad knowledge of business & technology expertise – understand the interconnections between the people, the processes, and the technology solutions
- Understand the importance of building strong working relationships.
- Effective written and verbal communication
- Strong organizational, presentation, and customer service skills
- Ability to quickly master technical concepts
- Ability to propose solutions and innovate
- While expected to be a leader, equally comfortable digging into business requirements or drilling into architecture with development teams.
Qualifications
- 12+ years of direct or related experience in program management or Agile software delivery experience
- 12+ years’ experience in Technical Program, IT, and/or Project Management
- Experience with Agile and Waterfall program management methodologies
- Experience managing a geo-dispersed team
- Experience working in a concurrent software development environment as part of a complex build and merge management process
- Technology product development experience is highly desired

The annual base pay for this position is: $197,870.00 - $296,804.00F5 maintains broad salary ranges for its roles in order to account for variations in knowledge, skills, experience, geographic locations, and market conditions, as well as to reflect F5’s differing products, industries, and lines of business. The pay range referenced is as of the time of the job posting and is subject to change.
