Position Summary:
Join F5 Inc. as a Principal Engineer (Individual Contributor) taking charge of designing, developing, and implementing complete software components. As a key technical influencer, you will be pivotal in setting the company’s technical direction, contributing to major software subsystems, and mentoring other engineers on their technical growth.
Primary Responsibilities:
Data Plane Ownership: Take ownership of data plane components and services on BIG-IP Next APM.
Expertise Development: Develop expertise across platform components, actively contributing to the continuous improvement of our technology stack.
Collaborative Scope Definition: Regularly assist Architects and Managers in defining project scope and estimating efforts, demonstrating a collaborative approach to project management.
Innovative Solutions: Work closely with Architects to devise and develop new solutions, particularly those involving cross-module dependencies.
Product Design Detailing: Regularly detail all aspects of product design, ensuring alignment with the technical architectural framework.
Performance Optimization: Review product architecture, identifying and addressing performance bottlenecks and other systemic limitations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Liaise with cross-functional teams to ensure comprehensive project delivery, fostering a collaborative work environment.
Mentorship: Act as a mentor for junior team members, promoting their growth and development.
Customer Engagement: Engage with customers to address escalations, devise solutions, and collaborate with Product Management to define and deliver product solutions.
Collaborative Leadership: Demonstrate collaboration by promoting others’ ideas, influencing teams, and contributing to overall team success.
Integration Opportunities: Identify opportunities for integration, working across teams and organizations to coordinate the re-use of technology and facilitate integration.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Technical Proficiency: Extremely hands-on, with strong skills in C/C++. Experience in Python, is a bonus. Knowledge of GoLang is a plus.
Expertise: Expert knowledge and experience in Identity and Access management technologies such as SAML, OAuth, LDAP, Kerberos, SSO (Single Sign On), Authentication, and Authorization
Expertise: Expert knowledge in networking and network security.
Kubernetes Proficiency: Well-versed in Kubernetes environments, capable of navigating and leveraging their capabilities. Good knowledge of microservices architecture, standard patterns, API design and development best practices
Project Leadership: Can deliver projects independently when required, with a proven track record of leading complex product technologies from concept through release—experience in agile methodology.
Problem-Solving Skills: Exceptional problem-solving and project management skills, thriving in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.
Communication Excellence: Demonstrated excellence in written and verbal communication, ensuring effective collaboration and understanding across teams.
Respected Leadership: Well-respected by key stakeholders and peers across broader product development organizations.
Qualifications:
Typically requires a minimum of 12 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 10 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 7 years’ experience; or equivalent experience.
Excellent organizational agility and communication skills throughout the organization.
