We are the Digital Enablement Team in one of F5 Networks' newly formed product teams - looking for a Principal Engineer, responsible for the design, development and implementation of a distributed systems platform that runs in both public and private cloud environments. You will lead technical projects and serve as a mentor to engineering staff members. You will be an organizational spokesperson on advanced projects/program and cross-functional design projects. We will rely on your current and ongoing knowledge of emerging technologies. You will build formal technology proposals and build consensus to productize it.
Primary Responsibilities
Work closely with the team to design and code robust scalable, software components and microservices that integrate with both public and private cloud environments.
Apply architecture and design principles to enable target end-to-end usage scenarios
Propose designs optimized for extensibility, enabling development teams to operate quickly and iteratively
Work with scrum teams and Product Management to refine requirements, understand how we will meet the broader requirements of the system and help design efficient, flexible and scalable services
Analyze criteria and options, collecting necessary data to answer key questions
Meet with key partners, internal teams, and 3rd-party partners in joint design and development efforts
Be comfortable owning and articulating product architecture roadmap
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Deep understanding and development expertise with a broad set of relevant component technologies.
Knowledge of OSI Layer-1 to 7 including LAN switches, routers, general TCP/IP and associated protocols (IP, TCP, HTTP, SSL)
Good knowledge of microservices architecture, standard patterns, API design and development best practices
Hands-on expertise with test driven development and various testing methodologies
Working knowledge of development and deployment across multiple cloud providers such as Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform, VMWare and OpenStack
Knowledge or experience with Docker containers and orchestration platforms such as Kubernetes or Mesos
Ability to learn, lead and mentor
Able to collaborate and thrive in a dynamic environment
Development experience with one of Apache, Nginx or HAProxy is a plus
Recommends and maintains technical design processes and standards
Excellent interpersonal skills and growth mindset
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree with 15+ years of experience or 12+ years and a Master’s degree or equivalent experience
Programming experience in languages such as C/C++, Python and Bash (Golang is plus)
Relevant hands-on experience with any industry-standard cloud provider would be preferred
