Lab Technician- Quality Control
Quality Assurance · Full-time
Boston, MA, USA
THE ROLE
Volta Labs is seeking a hands-on Quality Control Laboratory Technician to support Performance Qualification (PQ), quality control, and validation for the Callisto digital fluidics automation platform. You'll run standardized genomics sample prep workflows, perform post-run QC, and document results that confirm Callisto systems and protocols perform reliably across repeated runs.
This is an execution-focused bench role, ideal for someone early in their career who enjoys following detailed procedures and building strong lab practices. You'll be trained on Callisto workflows, QC methods, and PQ procedures, and grow toward independence on routine work.
You'll report to the Scientific Program Manager and work closely with Quality Assurance, Application Development, and Instrument Manufacturing.
DAY 1 TO YEAR 1:
- Execute PQ and instrument qualification runs per established procedures and acceptance criteria.
- Prepare DNA samples, reagents, and consumables for PQ testing.
- Perform pre- and post-run QC (DNA concentration, fragment size) using fluorometers, fragment analyzers, thermal cyclers, and centrifuges.
- Accurately document run results, QC data, and observations.
- Flag unexpected instrument behavior or QC results, and support repeat testing and troubleshooting.
- Keep reagents, samples, consumables, and lab inventory organized.
- Partner with Quality Assurance and cross-functional teams to ensure consistent PQ execution and complete documentation.
Within 3 months you'll…
Learn Callisto basics, PQ workflows, SOPs, acceptance criteria, and documentation standards. Become proficient in sample, reagent, and instrument prep and routine QC (Qubit, fragment analysis), and begin executing PQ runs under guidance.
Within 6 months you'll…
Independently run Callisto PQ workflows end-to-end, from preparation through post-run QC and documentation. Flag deviations in QC metrics, instrument behavior, or workflow execution, and assist with repeat testing and troubleshooting.
Within 12 months you'll…
Serve as a dependable execution lead for routine PQ activities, escalating deviations and instrument concerns appropriately. Provide data and observations that support root-cause investigations, train new technicians, and identify ways to improve PQ efficiency and documentation.
