THE ROLE:
The Test Technician is responsible for testing and quality control of a variety of components, sub-assemblies, and fully assembled electro-mechanical systems manufactured at Volta. Responsibilities include assembly, calibration, testing, troubleshooting, and continuously improving internal manufacturing processes to enable quality production of our equipment, reduced cycle times, and reduced manufacturing costs. DAY TO DAY AND YEAR 1:

  • Perform assembly, set-up, calibration, testing and troubleshooting of circuits, components, instruments and mechanical assemblies.
  • Able to work with electrical, electro-mechanical & mechanical test fixtures. May use experience and learning to assist in future design.
  • Build and test to equipment specifications, methods and procedures from prints, drawings and diagrams. May use experience and learning to assist in future development.
  • Prepares technical reports summarizing findings and recommending solutions to technical problems. Some mathematical manipulation of data into results and ability to provide analysis and/or recommendations is required.
  • Will access and use software tools to follow work instructions, at time drafting those work instructions for the first time.
  • Investigate Bills of Material, review specifications, review ECO’s etc. to execute the job successfully.
  • Use knowledge and experience to work with New Product Introduction on the best way to deploy testing technology and practices for future products.
  • Duties may be modified or assigned at any time to meet the needs of the business.
  • Within 3 months you’ll…complete onboarding, understand the product, and be able to competently build, calibrate, and test with little to no oversight.
    By 6 months you’ll…have built and shipped multiple instruments that have been fully tested to stringent quality standards. Implemented testing improvements based on learnings over several build and test iterations.
    At 12+ months you’ll…actively support the growth of Volta’s operations team, helping scale manufacturing of our products, driving quality improvements, and mentoring other technicians that have joined our team during this time.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or GED required. Associates Degree or other 2-year technical diploma preferred OR 5+ years of military training and experience testing, and troubleshooting of large military platforms to be considered in lieu of technical diploma.
  • 5+ years experience testing and troubleshooting highly engineered capital equipment (at component & system level), completing disassembly and reassembly as a result of testing.
  • Must show strong proficiency in the use of Power Meters, Oscilloscopes & Digital Multimeters. Must be able to install and configure computer hardware, software and networking.
  • Must use and understand the application of common hand tools, various industry nomenclatures, and have strong assembly skills.
  • Must be a self-starter who looks for ways to improve the job and related processes and shows initiative in execution.
  • Working knowledge of spreadsheets, creating, manipulating, and using for data analysis.
  • Demonstrated proficiency developing work instructions, documenting testing procedures and processes.
This is a full-time position that requires a significant amount of in-person work and collaboration onsite at our Seaport Office in Boston, MA. If you are unable to relocate or commute to the Boston MA area, this role won't be a match.
