THE OPPORTUNITY:
You will be joining as a Systems Integration Engineer in the Applications Development team and be responsible for integrating genomic applications on the Volta Labs fluidics platform and contributing to internal process improvements.
RESPONSIBILTIES:
- Automate biochemical workflows on Volta Labs’ platform technologies through a manipulation and thorough understanding of droplet fluidics, liquid handling, protocol scripting, biochemistry and various peripheral systems.
- Take applications from feasibility through commercialization by prioritizing workflow robustness.
- Identify inefficiencies in existing internal features/tools/processes, and contribute towards developing solutions.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to design features/tools/processes that align with internal and external customer needs.
- Effectively communicate instrument status and performance on behalf of the Application Development team.
- Shepherd stakeholders external to the Application Development team when collaboration is required.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to design features/tools/processes that align with internal and external customer needs.
- Act as a liaison between the Application Development team and other Volta teams requiring platform specific knowledge.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Masters/Ph.D. in a technical program such as engineering, chemistry, physics, or biology.
- 1-3+ years of experience with hands-on experimentation of hardware/ instrumentation, preferably in life sciences
- Experience with experimental plans for characterization, optimization, and root cause analysis of integrated electromechanical and microfluidic / nanofluidic systems
- Strong experimental laboratory skills, demonstrated by work experience.
- Ability to read, understand and synthesize biological and chemical protocol.
- Experience scripting in python/Javascript for automation or data analysis purposes.
- Excel at bringing structure to unstructured problems: proven ability to research information, solve challenging problems, and coordinate projects under tight timing constraints
- Ability to collaborate in a fast-paced team environment with rapidly changing priorities: pro-active team player who thinks ahead, plans, and suggests solutions
- You are a continuous learner who embraces a growth mindset
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to synthesize technical information to be able to share internally across disciplines
- You have a successful track record working with cross-functional development teams.
- Familiarity with NGS and its common applications
This is a full-time position that requires a significant amount of in-person work and collaboration. We ask that you can come onsite to our Seaport Office in Boston, MA 5 days a week.
