Role
The AI Team at Vivodyne has the opportunity to employ and advance cutting-edge research on some of the most challenging and exciting problems in science and engineering — leveraging our exceptionally feature-rich, consistent, and massive-scale human tissue imagery.
As a Bioinformatics Engineer (Image Analysis) you will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and optimizing the image analysis pipelines that form the backbone of our groundbreaking R&D efforts.
You will work closely with AI researchers, microfluidics and robotics engineers, and tissue biologists to ensure that Vivodyne’s imaging data is efficiently processed and leveraged for the discovery, development, and de-risking of novel therapeutics.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement image processing pipelines: Develop scalable, high-performance image analysis workflows — from classical filtering to advanced deep learning — that extract critical structural and functional features from 2D, 3D, and time-series biological imaging data.
- Apply classical and modern techniques: Utilize both tried-and-true classical methods (e.g., morphological operators, Fourier transforms, … etc.) and cutting-edge machine learning approaches to analyze complex cellular and tissue images at scale.
- Leverage AWS or major cloud providers: Architect and maintain compute pipelines in the cloud to handle massive datasets efficiently. Collaborate on containerization, orchestration, and CI/CD initiatives to deliver robust, production-grade systems.
- Optimize performance: Employ your deep expertise in applied mathematics and statistics to refine image processing algorithms for speed, accuracy, and resource efficiency, always seeking new ways to optimize throughput.
- Drive continuous improvement: Identify opportunities to enhance Vivodyne’s imaging platform by collaborating cross-functionally; propose and implement solutions to improve image quality, operational performance, and pipeline maintainability.
- Contribute to codebases and tools: Work within a greater software architecture adhering to high coding standards. Develop high-quality, well-documented, and modular code primarily in Python, with opportunities to explore C++, CUDA, or GLSL for performance-critical segments.
- Open source engagement: Evaluate and integrate existing open source image processing libraries and frameworks (e.g., OpenCV, ITK, scikit-image, PyTorch, TensorFlow) wherever appropriate.
- Domain collaboration: Partner with tissue engineers, AI/ML researchers, and other domain experts to understand experimental and scientific requirements and translate them into computational solutions.
- Maintain scientific rigor: Scrutinize experimental results, track system performance, and implement strategies for robust data handling, storage, and analytics while ensuring reproducibility and reliability.
- Communication and teamwork: Document and present technical findings to diverse audiences. Contribute to a culture of operational excellence, knowledge sharing, and collective problem-solving within the AI team and across Vivodyne.
