Prototype Machinist

Vicarious Surgical is hiring a Prototype Machinist to join our team in Waltham, MA. This Machinist will join our prototype team and help run our 3 on-site milling machines.
Vicarious Surgical is a next generation robotics company developing a disruptive technology with the goal of increasing the efficiency of surgical procedure, improving patient outcomes, and reducing healthcare costs.
This position will be based in Waltham, MA and work onsite Monday - Friday during office hours.
This role is open to candidates at all levels of experience. Everyone will be considered for a position that's commensurate with experience level.
Responsibilities:
- Keep the machines running which includes setting machines up to run new/old programs to fabricate high quality components to tight tolerances
- Create small, one-off part programs and multipart batch programs for production volumes, ranging in complexity and operation requirements.
- Deburring, cleaning, and other finishing processes, and inspect parts using appropriate tools
- Blueprint interpretation, read and interpret technical drawings
- Collaborate with engineers and designers to troubleshoot and optimize manufacturability
- Maintain detailed records of machining processes, tooling setups, and prototype revisions to support efficient project execution and future reference
About You:
- Graduate of technical school, full apprenticeship program, or four-year training program.
- Familiarity with shop tools (Bandsaws, drill presses, grinding machines, bead blasting, welding machines,...)
- Practical experience with Solidworks CAD package.
- Able to read and interpret part drawings, including geometric callouts, tolerances, etc
- Must be willing and able to follow verbal and written instructions, including specific operation task lists.
- Close attention to detail to prevent damage to complex and costly machine tools and to inspect machined parts closely to ensure that they meet specifications..
- Physical ability to do work requiring frequent stooping and bending and lift and carry 25 pounds.
- Knowledge and ability to maintain machine tools and tooling.
- Organizational skills for keeping track of stock, tooling and finished workpieces.
- Ability to use typical office software such as spreadsheets and documents.
