Vicarious Surgical is seeking a Staff Mechanical Engineer to join our team in Waltham, MA. This role will be tasked with driving mechanical development of equipment associated with our surgical robot.

Vicarious Surgical is a next generation robotics company developing a disruptive technology with the goal of increasing the efficiency of surgical procedure, improving patient outcomes and reducing healthcare costs.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in all phases of product development, including requirements definition, concept generation, detailed design, clinical simulation, manufacturing process development, assembly, integration, verification, and validation testing.
  • Manage a large scope of mechanical design work including possible partnership with external partners.
  • Specify and choose electromechanical components.
  • Understand, analyze, and suggest design improvements to existing technology.
  • Manage comprehensive verification and validation strategies at the subsystem and system level.
  • Work with partners to produce various levels of functional prototypes.
  • Produce, review and understand engineering drawings, GD&T and tolerance analyses.

About You

  • 10+ years’ experience with Bachelor’s Degree.
  • 8+ years’ experience with Master’s Degree.
  • Ability to manage, interact with and influence multiple stakeholders required.
  • Proficiency with solid modeling required, Solidworks preferred, FEA experience nice to have.
  • Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturing, Design for Assembly, and various assembly techniques.
  • Comfort with and understanding of the interplay between various components of a complex, electromechanical system.
  • Prior experience supporting verification and validation plans to advance from prototype designs to finished products.
  • Prior direct work with external development partners and manufacturers preferred.
  • Enjoy mentoring less experienced team members in design and engineering best practices.
  • Experience with medical device product development / CFR 21 Part 820 design controls, IEC 60601 and the risk management process strongly desired.
  • Prior experience working on Robotics Systems is a plus.
