Your Opportunity:

We are looking for a motivated and eager-to-learn Aquaculture Technician to join our team. This is a fantastic opportunity for a recent graduate or someone with little experience in the field who is passionate about aquaculture and sustainability. As an entry-level team member, you will assist the Operations Manager in managing the day-to-day operations of our farm, including caring for shrimp, monitoring water quality and ensuring the aquaculture systems are functioning properly.

This opportunity will provide you with hands-on experience and the chance to work alongside experienced professionals in a supportive, fast-paced environment. You will gain exposure to Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS), water quality management and the cultivation of shrimp and algae.

Please note: This role requires working on-site at our commercial site near Jurong.

You are passionate about sustainability and innovation, and you want to contribute to making a difference in the food production industry. You are a quick learner who thrives in a hands-on environment and enjoys problem-solving. You bring a positive attitude, a strong willingness to learn and a desire to grow with the company.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Play a key role in the daily care and maintenance of the nursery and grow out tanks to ensure the shrimp are healthy and the systems are functioning properly.
  • Adheres to established processes and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure consistency, safety and efficiency in all farm operations.
  • Assists with the shrimp culture and harvesting, learning the processes to ensure quality production.
  • Support the algae cultures, contributing to the farm’s sustainability goals.
  • Monitors and records water quality parameters such as ammonia, temperature, pH and salinity to ensure optimal conditions.
  • Ensures proper packing of shrimp products while strictly adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) to maintain product quality, food safety and compliance with industry standards.
  • Provides support for the fabrication and maintenance of basic equipment for the aquaculture systems.
  • Tracks shrimp batch data and monitors performance to provide recommendations for system optimizations.
  • Upholds Vertical Ocean’s safety, biosecurity, quality, sanitation, and maintenance standards.

Qualifications and skills:

  • A recent graduate or has minimal experience in aquaculture, marine biology, environmental science or a related field.
  • A strong interest in aquaculture and sustainable farming practices.
  • Eager to learn and develop new skills in aquaculture and operations.
  • A hands-on individual who enjoys working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Detail-oriented, organized and proactive in completing tasks.
  • A team player who communicates well and is comfortable working with others to solve problems.

Bonus Points:

  • Any experience or coursework related to aquaculture, marine biology or environmental science.
  • Familiarity with water quality management or basic farming systems is a plus.
  • A passion for sustainability and eco-friendly practices.

  • Availability for on-call duties during non-business hours to address immediate issues.
  • Flexibility to work nights, weekends or holidays, as our facilities operate 365 days a year.
