We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Lab Technician, with a background in Life Sciences or Aquaculture to join our science team. The critical role involves performing a variety of technical and science tasks within a laboratory setting and high scale in a commercial operating facility. The primary responsibility is to assist with analytical chemistry, algae husbandry, shrimp health monitoring and in executing scientific needs. Consistency, accuracy, safety, and strict adherence to SOPs and best practice are essential.
Responsibilities
- Husbandry and maintenance of biological cultivation systems, including seaweed grow-out tanks, algae kitchen, and microbiological cultures.
- Sample collection (water, feed, tissue, and environmental samples) from aquaculture systems, marine environments, or other sources for culture and analysis.
- Analytical chemistry of water quality parameters (e.g., salinity, pH, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and turbidity) and other compounds and materials.
- Perform weekly health assessment and monitoring tasks.
- Assisting with the preparation of ongoing materials/solutions and inventory.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment such as microscopes, spectrophotometers, centrifuges, and water quality instruments to ensure they remain in proper functional condition, including calibration and verification of devices.
- Accurately record and document results of work, including water quality, species health, and any treatments in laboratory notebooks and digital systems.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, including Life Sciences, Aquaculture/Marine Biology, Environmental Science, or Polytechnic graduate in environmental science or aquaculture.
- Prior knowledge or experience with lab equipment, analytical methods and safety protocols is required
- Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Basic understanding of data analysis and software (e.g., Excel, statistical tools, lab management software).
Working Conditions
- Physical demands may include lifting moderate weights (up to 15 kgs), working in a water environment, and working with live organisms.
Other Essential Requirements
- Singaporean citizen or Permanent Resident (PR) only.
- Candidates must be able to work on-site at our Tanjong Pagar or Jurong sites in Singapore.
