Sr. Plant Engineer

Moss landing, CA / Engineering / FULL-TIME

Verdagy is creating a new class of very large-scale hydrogen electrolyzers that will help decarbonize some of the most difficult to abate sectors of our global economy. Our approach is to design large modular skid-mounted hydrogen electrolyzers that will be used to architect very large-scale hydrogen production plants.

In this role, you will lead plant engineering and maintenance support for the successful operation of all Verdagy’s pilot plant testing units. The role encompass overseeing equipment maintenance and plant housekeeping, training operations staff, collaboration with the process development team and driving process improvement initiatives. By ensuring optimal plant performance, you will play a vital role in developing the next generation hydrogen production plants.

Roles and Responsibilities

· Provide technical leadership and guidance in the installation, operation, and maintenance of plant equipment and systems.

· Drive the development and implementation of strategies to continually improve plant safety and housekeeping.

· Create and manage pilot plant integrity program and spare parts inventory.

· Take responsibility for documenting process changes through management of change procedures. This includes accurately recording and communicating modifications to ensure transparency.

· Lead and oversee regular plant maintenance tasks, coordinating with the process engineering team to execute planned maintenance and address any unexpected issues promptly.

· Create and modify comprehensive standard operating procedures (SOPs) for new systems or system upgrades. Develop clear instructions and guidelines that enhance operational efficiency, accuracy, and safety.

· Cultivate a culture of continuous improvement, teamwork, and accountability within the engineering team

Prior Experience and Professional Qualities

· Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or Chemical Engineering.

· More than 5 years of industry experience in electrolysis/chemical processing/oil & gas industries, demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of chemical plant’s complexities and challenges.

· Strong mechanical skills associated with plant operations and equipment maintenance.

· Prior experience working with corrosive fluid handling, including expertise in piping, heat exchangers, pumps, valves, and instruments.

· Demonstrated engineering leadership abilities, capable of strategically guiding operators and the maintenance team to ensure efficient and safe operations. Strong communication and collaboration skills to foster a cohesive and productive working environment.

· Passion for leading plant operation and housekeeping excellence.

· Prior experience in implementing and adhering to plant safety procedures, with a deep understanding of the importance of maintaining a safe working environment.

Preferred Experience

· Extensive hands-on experience working with engineering instruments, specifically process transmitters and plant safety equipment.

· Proficient in PLC controls for both pilot and commercial plant operations, effectively monitoring and controlling processes to achieve desired outcomes.

· Prior experience in utilizing P&ID, Management of Changes, and Process Hazard Analysis.

· Proficiency in CAD software, including AutoCAD and SolidWorks.

· Preference for candidates with startup experience, displaying a passion for being part of a small team that strives to make a meaningful impact. Excited about working in an agile and dynamic environment where innovation and creativity are valued.

Salary Range: $105 – 135k + Equity
