Verdagy is creating a new class of very large-scale hydrogen electrolyzers that will help decarbonize some of the most difficult to abate sectors of our global economy. Our approach is to design large modular skid-mounted hydrogen electrolyzers that will be used to architect very large-scale hydrogen production plants.

In this role, you will join our commercial units process design team. This role will include preforming both process engineering and process safety design tasks for our modular skid-mounted Electrolyzers and Balance of Plant. You will join a motivated team that will design, construct, validate, and deploy a modular hydrogen production technology for large scale production.

Roles and Responsibilities

· Create a modular process skid based first-of-a-kind hydrogen plant design suitable for rapid and economical scale up.

· Subject matter expert on process safety design for H2 and O2 plants.

· Develop area classification plans and leak & flame detection plans.

· SIL calculations and SIF verification

· Collaborate with 3rd parties for ventilation studies, blast calculations and CFD modelling

· Lead and facilitate internal PHA, LOPA and MOCs.

· Develop and modify P&IDs, PFDs, Heat and Material Balances, Process Simulations, Control Philosophies and Utility Specifications.

· Specify Equipment, Piping Systems, Pumps, Control Valves and Instrumentation and be point of contact with vendors to obtain quotations.

· Become subject matter expert on codes and standards applicable to hydrogen electrolyzers and plants, ensure compliance to relevant codes and become key team driver for ISO certification.

· Supervise and mentor junior engineers.

· De-risk product through pilot plant operations – component validations, generation of model correlations, validation of innovative processes.

· Interface with component vendors and system fabricators to develop understanding of cost-performance tradeoffs, then work with those vendors to source optimized components and subsystems.

Prior Experience and Professional Qualities

· Bachelor’s degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, or similar.

· 7+ years industry experience in chemical processing industries.

· Experience with Facility Siting Studies

· Previous experience with electrochemical processes such as hydrogen electrolyzers or chlor alkali plants. Or previous experience with other hydrogen technologies.

· Experience with PFDs, P&IDs, Management of Change, Process Hazard Analysis (PHA). Experience with plant certification, compliance, and safety per ISO, API, NFPA, IEC, UL and other codes. Specific experience with safe design of H2 and O2 plants preferred.

· Hands on field experience with the engineering, design, procurement, and construction of large scale, preferably modular, plants.

· History of innovation, system optimization, and cost reduction – ideally both during the design phase and as part of continuous improvement of commercialized processes.

· Demonstrated engineering leadership role and ability to strategically guide development activities within and across functions.

Preferred Experience

· Design, fabrication, and deployment of modular process skids, pilot plants, and first of a kind operations.

· Process modeling and cost modeling with software like Aspen HYSYS, ChemCAD, Matlab, etc.

· Familiarity with the properties and handling requirements of hydrogen, oxygen, and caustic.

· Startup experience preferred; excited to be part of a small team that is making a difference.

· Experience in renewable energy, climate tech, or chemical industries preferred.

· Passion for decarbonization highly preferred.
