Velo3D is seeking a motivated Manufacturing Engineer to join our team in our manufacturing facility in Fremont, CA. In this role, you will participate and influence all aspects of the production process flow from new product development, subsystem assembly at local and global contract manufacturers, and system assembly and integration testing.
The ideal candidate works well in a fast-paced dynamic environment, has a “take-charge” “can-do” attitude, and can demonstrate flexibility and resiliency.

Essential Job Functions

  • Work with CAD in collaboration with hardware, software, process, and applications engineering on DFX initiatives.
  • Develop, document, and deploy unit tests for mechanical, electrical and optical components and subsystems.
  • Train technical staff at vendors and within Velo3D.
  • Work with vendors to introduce new product, implement change orders, develop testing, and improve quality, cost, and delivery.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, optical, and mechanical issues on the production floor
  • Propose and deliver continuous improvement projects (CIP) using 5s and Lean principles to improve product quality, decrease cost, and reduce cycle times.
  • Guide new product introduction to manufacturing from prototype through pilot and production release.
  • Create and update assembly and testing documentation, drawings, etc.
  • Participate actively and provide feedback in design review meetings.
  • Create ECO’s and follow through the CCB process to closure.
  • Involved with MRB activities and disposition of material on Production floor.

Qualifications

  • 2 to 5 years experience working as a Manufacturing Engineer in a Capital Equipment Manufacturing environment.
  • Familiar utilizing CAD systems and providing DFX for various mechanical and electrical designs.
  • Strong history of CAD modeling and drawing creation with GD&T.
  • Experience through the full product lifecycle, from concept through production.
  • Hands-on experience with building and assembly.
  • Ability to troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and optical assemblies and systems.
  • Able to write manufacturing and test procedures.
  • Reading schematics and wiring diagrams to troubleshoot electrical systems by tracing a signal from start to finish through multiple cables, sensors, etc.
  • Digital Multi-Meter and other electronic test equipment use for pinning out cables and verifying assemblies are wired to the schematic.
  • Understanding of circuits to be able to troubleshoot power, resistance, current issues in a circuit.
  • Knowledge of sensors (pressure transducers, oxygen sensors, VFDs etc.)
  • Mechanical tool use such as drills, taps, etc.
  • Electrical tool use such as crimpers, wire strippers, soldering, etc.

Education

  • B.A. /B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or a hardware engineering field required.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting base salary for this full-time position is between $95,726 and $105,000. This salary range reflects the minimum and maximum target for this position in the U.S. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as work experience, job-related skills, related education, work location, and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. In addition to a competitive base salary and a comprehensive benefits package, this position may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and equity program, as applicable.
