This role plays a key part in advancing Veev’s mission by ensuring plumbing and domestic water systems in our modular homes are efficient, code-compliant, and seamlessly integrated with architectural, structural, and MEP disciplines. As a Plumbing Engineer, your work will support Veev’s ability to scale operations and deliver innovative, industry-leading housing solutions. Your contributions will directly support Veev’s ability to scale operations and lead industry-wide innovation.
The Role
As a Plumbing Engineer within the Sustaining Engineering team, you will be responsible for the design and optimization of residential plumbing systems, including domestic water, venting, and sanitary drainage, with added ownership of HVAC coordination and layout. This role ensures systems are code-compliant, energy efficient, and seamlessly integrated across MEP, structural, and architectural disciplines. Your work will directly impact modular product scalability and operational excellence. Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain highly detailed, coordinated BIM Revit models for plumbing and HVAC integrated with structural and MEP disciplines, in alignment with R&D-provided guidelines and Veev standards.
- Support continuous improvement of existing plumbing and HVAC system designs for modular residential products, including updates driven by field feedback, factory needs, and engineering enhancements.
- Develop and maintain production documentation, including plumbing and HVAC assembly drawings for factory (Fab) and installation drawings for field/site deployment.
- Coordinate system design with structural, architectural, electrical, and site teams.
- Respond to RFIs from both the field and Fab teams, resolving design or implementation issues with code-compliant solutions.
- Identify and propose cost-saving or efficiency improvements in system design while maintaining performance, safety, and quality standards.
- Collaborate with BIM & MCAD teams to create and maintain robust, scalable digital design assets.
- Highlight design gaps or cross-disciplinary clashes early and resolve them collaboratively with relevant stakeholders.
- Provide design review support during permitting and submission processes.
- Provide regular updates to the team lead and key stakeholders on progress, blockers, and deliverables.
Must-Have Skills and Competencies
- Strong knowledge of plumbing system design for residential applications, including water, waste, vent, and gas.
- Experience designing HVAC systems for residential buildings: load calculations, duct sizing, and ventilation layout.
- Familiarity with and application of:
- California Plumbing Code (CPC)
- California Mechanical Code (CMC)
- Title 24, Part 6 – Building Energy Efficiency Standards
- NFPA 54 – National Fuel Gas Code (for gas appliances and water heaters)
- IAPMO & ASPE best practices
- Proficiency in Autodesk Revit and working within BIM environments for multi-disciplinary coordination (STR, ARC, MEP).
- Experience supporting field and factory teams through RFI resolution, deviation response, and iterative design improvement.
- Ability to produce detailed and accurate production documentation for both factory assembly and site installation.
- Effective communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail-oriented and organized, with the ability to track and manage multiple ongoing tasks.
- A collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset aligned with continuous improvement.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Plumbing Engineering (or equivalent technical experience).
- 4+ years of relevant experience in plumbing and HVAC design, preferably in residential, modular, or prefabricated construction environments.
Nice-to-Have Skills and Competencies
- PE license or on path to licensure in California.
- Experience with energy compliance tools (e.g., EnergyPro, COMcheck).
- Familiarity with off-site fabrication and modular installation principles.
- Knowledge of California submittal and inspection processes.
- Hands-on site assessment or construction administration experience.
Compensation
Offers are based on a combination of experience, skills, and location. Pursuant to state and local pay disclosure requirements, the pay range for this role is $130,000- $170,000 annually for Hayward, CA.
