We are looking for a highly motivated Electrical Engineer II to join our team!
As an Electrical Engineer II, you will contribute to the development of electronics and harnesses for fully automated sequencing and support instruments. This role involves working on systems ranging from precision robotics to high-speed data acquisition, ensuring reliability, scalability, and manufacturability.
This is a full-time, on-site position at our Fremont, CA headquarters.
How You’ll Contribute
- Design electronics and harnesses for automated sequencing instruments, including robotics and high-speed data acquisition systems
- Define and execute experiments to validate hardware and firmware functionality and failure use cases at the board level
- Perform prototype testing, document improvements, and support transition to production and scale-up
- Troubleshoot electrical failures and collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement cost, footprint, and reliability improvements
- Serve as a technical resource for new product integration; author build, test, and training documentation for manufacturing
- Design automated test and measurement systems to identify component-level failures; work closely with vendors to root-cause issues and implement corrective actions

Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge & Abilities
- BS degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- 2+ years of hands-on experience designing custom PCBs and mixed-signal electronics incorporating embedded microcontrollers, with close collaboration with firmware engineers to ensure seamless hardware–software integration; strong knowledge of signal and power integrity
- Proficiency in Electrical CAD tools (Altium, KiCAD) and ability to interpret schematics and layouts
- Experience with industrial electronics such as power supply sizing, wire harness design, component selection, and layout
- Knowledge of EMI/shielding strategies and harness component selection
- Strong troubleshooting skills for board-level and complex multi-disciplinary systems; familiarity with bench and portable measurement tools
- Proficiency in using Python for automation and data analysis
- Experience designing automated test platforms and reliability testing setups
- Excellent organizational and communication skills; ability to work independently and collaboratively

At Ultima Genomics, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. This role pays between $105,000 and $125,000, if performed in California, and your actual base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits.
