Rapidly growing life sciences technology company

Ultima Genomics is a rapidly growing company that is developing ground-breaking genomics technologies. Our mission is to continuously drive the scale of genomic information to enable unprecedented advances in biology and improvements in human health. We have developed a foundational new approach to sequencing at scale that overcomes limitations due to the high costs of current technologies. We are well-funded and have raised approximately $600 million from global top-tier investors. Our team brings together unique and diverse expertise across multiple disciplines, from healthcare and life sciences, to engineering, to technology and software and beyond. We are a collaborative group of more than 350 employees, including successful entrepreneurs, chemists, hardware and software engineers, genomics and biotechnology experts, molecular and computational biologists, software and algorithm experts, and operations and commercial leaders. Join us to develop and commercialize technologies that unleash the power of genomics at scale and empower the future of human health.

We are looking for a highly motivated Electrical Engineer to join our team!

How You’ll Contribute

  • Contribute to the design of electronics and harnesses for our fully automated sequencing and support instruments, encompassing precise robotics to high-speed data acquisition systems.
  • Define experiments to test functional and failure use cases of board-level electronics. Perform testing to verify the design on early prototypes and capture improvements for transition to production and scaling manufacturing.
  • Troubleshoot failure cases and work with multidisciplinary stakeholders to design process or hardware improvements aiming to reduce cost, and footprint, and enhance reliability and manufacturability.
  • Build expertise in instrument electronics and act as a technical resource for new product integration, collaborating with the manufacturing team to author build, test, and training documentation.
  • Implement automation for measurements that qualify component and sub-system level performance, conducting accelerated lifetime testing to ensure reliability.
  • Additional duties as required.

Qualifications, Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

  • BS degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
  • 2+ years of related experience.
  • Experience in designing custom PCBs and electronics for mixed-signal processing, with an understanding of practical design considerations to ensure both signal and power integrity.
  • Proficiency with Electrical CAD packages such as Altium, or KiCAD for PCB design and the ability to read schematics and understand board layout.
  • Demonstrated experience in industrial electronics, including power supply sizing, wire harness design, part layout, and selection.
  • Knowledge of harness component selection, EMI/shielding strategies.
  • Ability to troubleshoot electrical issues at board level and on complex multi-disciplinary instruments and familiarity with bench and portable measurement instruments.
  • Proficiency in automation and data analysis using Python is a plus.
  • Hands-on and independent work style, coupled with excellent organizational and communication skills.
