Role Summary
The Accounting Manager / Controller builds and leads TWT's accounting function, covering close, financial reporting, manufacturing cost accounting, internal controls, and audit readiness. You will bring bookkeeping in-house and build scalable processes, systems, and a team in a hands-on startup role.
Key Responsibilities
Accounting & Financial Reporting
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, including the general ledger, reconciliations, and financial statements
- Work with auditors and external advisors to select appropriate accounting standards and establish financial statements and a reporting framework under those standards; support future IFRS/US GAAP readiness as required
- Design and operate cost accounting for cell manufacturing, including standard costing, inventory/WIP valuation, and variance analysis
- Partner with Manufacturing and Supply Chain to ensure manufacturing and inventory data, including BOM inputs, are accurately reflected in cost accounting
Accounting Operations
- Bring bookkeeping in-house from the external tax accountant and establish scalable accounting processes
- Oversee AP, AR, expense reimbursement, fixed assets, and payroll accounting
Internal Controls, Audit & Compliance
- Establish and document internal controls over financial reporting
- Own day-to-day external audit execution, including audit materials, request coordination, and follow-up on findings
- Coordinate tax and statutory filings with external advisors and ensure compliant accounting and reporting for government grants and subsidies
Systems & Team
- Select, implement, and administer accounting systems and related tools
- Hire and develop the accounting team as the company grows
- Provide accurate, timely actuals to support business planning and decision-making
Requirements
Required Qualifications
- Practical, hands-on accounting experience
- Strong knowledge of bookkeeping principles (e.g., Japanese Bookkeeping Certification or equivalent)
- CPA qualification or experience working with CPAs in an audit or accounting environment
- Hands-on cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment is required
- Experience setting up finance & accounting functions in a startup is highly welcomed
- Ability to work independently and build processes from scratch
- Comfortable working in a fast-moving, resource-limited startup environment
Language
- Japanese: Business level
- English: Business-level reading/writing; comfortable working with overseas vendors and sites
