About the Job

As an Embedded Software Engineer on our R&D/Neuroelectronics team, you will play a key role in development and testing of embedded software for a commercial-ready Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) system. We are looking for candidates with experience in firmware development who are excited to bring their skills to a mission-driven environment. You will get to drive development and testing of Synchron's embedded firmware across implanted and external devices. You will collaborate with electrical, mechanical, and software engineers to deliver robust firmware solutions that integrate within Synchron's product ecosystem.

Onsite in Brooklyn, New York

Job Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, launch, and maintain embedded systems and firmware features across our user-facing devices in C/C++ and Python
  • Effectively communicate system architecture, detailed design, and test protocols to internal stakeholders
  • As our team and goals grow, your responsibilities may adapt to meet changing needs or new opportunities

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience in electrical engineering, computer science, or related technical field
  • 1+ years of firmware development in C/C++
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams
  • Basic proficiency in Python

Desired Qualifications

  • Advanced degree or equivalent experience in electrical engineering, computer science, or related technical field
  • Experience working with Bluetooth
  • Experience with Zephyr RTOS or similar ecosystem
  • Experience with Class III active implanted medical devices
  • Experience with software development in a regulatory context (e.g. IEC 62304)
  • Experience with automated hardware-in-the-loop testing and/or business-driven development methodology
  • Experience with bench-top electronic and RF test equipment
  • Results oriented mindset - ability to drive to completion in adherence to aggressive project schedules
  • 3+ years of firmware development or similar experience
  • Strong proficiency in Python

Compensation

The base salary range for this role is $120K-150K, depending on experience, skills, and qualifications. In addition to base pay, this role may be eligible for discretionary bonuses and/or equity grants subject to board approval and company policy.
