We are looking for a well-rounded and seasoned tax professional to help us lead this effort.

About the team

This function will be responsible for Indirect Tax Advisory, as it pertains to our international entities, to include determining taxability of new products coming to market, supporting management of indirect tax audits and other indirect tax matters with local Tax Authorities, working with our indirect tax systems & compliance leads on day to day matters, and much more. The ideal candidate should be able to work well with cross-functional teams. The candidate must be able to communicate and promote indirect tax advisory needs across Stripe and its subsidiaries, and communicate complex indirect tax concepts in ways that are meaningful and useful to non-tax professionals. The candidate will be able to work with a high level of collegiality, working on projects spanning multiple teams. The position will be based in Dublin and report to the International Indirect Tax Advisory Lead.

What you’ll do

Responsibilities

  • Be an indirect tax subject matter expert (global VAT/GST) and resource to our business and finance teams in Stripe, managing various aspects of our indirect tax planning, and operations.
  • Take ownership of complex indirect tax planning and specialized operational projects.
  • Support Stripe’s expansion internationally.
  • Monitor and interpret policy matters affecting indirect taxes internationally.
  • Partner with the international indirect tax compliance leads, and the international accounting teams on VAT/GST compliance, to support and refine the ongoing enhancement of indirect tax compliance processes.
  • Lead and co-ordinate indirect tax audits and other indirect tax matters involving tax authorities internationally.
  • Lead interactions with other tax team members and product and engineering teams to help define indirect tax requirements and collaborate on the design of tax solutions for our users.
  • Proactively promote indirect tax awareness and knowledge including training and liaising with business and tax partners on changes to indirect tax legislation, systems, policies and processes.

Minimum requirements

  • 6-8 years of relevant indirect tax knowledge, laws and regulations.
  • Bachelor’s degree and professional qualification in tax or law
  • Legal or accountancy firm experience combined with in-house experience within a multinational business
  • Deep technical knowledge of indirect taxes as it relates to the digital economy, including the supply of services and physical products
  • Accounting experience and proficiency with ERP systems, and related data analytics skills
  • Ability to clearly and concisely translate complex tax technicals into actionable business advice for non-tax stakeholders and executive leadership
  • Strong project management experience, detail-oriented individual who can independently lead high-impact projects
  • Ability to extract, analyze, and review data and make appropriate recommendations
  • Ability to thrive in a fast paced, informal, and often ambiguous environment
  • Willingness to learn and ability to quickly acquire knowledge
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to work autonomously or within a team

Preferred qualifications

  • An advanced degree.
  • Experience working in technology, payments, or financial services.
  • Experience working in a high-growth, rapidly scaling environment.
  • A willingness to work with a diverse crew of tax nerds who care deeply about Stripe’s tax issues and each other.
Office-assigned Stripes in most of our locations are currently expected to spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This expectation may vary depending on role, team and location. For example, Stripes in our Bucharest, Romania site have an 80% in-office expectation, and those in Stripe Delivery Center roles in Mexico City, Mexico and Bengaluru, India work 100% from the office. Also, some teams have greater in-office attendance requirements, to appropriately support our users and workflows, which the hiring manager will discuss. This approach helps strike a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility when possible.

The annual salary range for this role in the primary location is €94,600 - €141,800. This range may change if you are hired in another location. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings (“OTE”) range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and specific location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the primary location may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.
