Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies - from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups - use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone's reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

We believe there are too many barriers to doing business on the internet, and that opportunities are not equally distributed throughout the world. We also think building and growing a business online is a problem rooted in code, language, and design—not finance.

We’re designing tools and infrastructure to help our users start, run, and scale an online business from anywhere in the world. That’s where you come in: we’re looking for a Product Design Manager who will enable our product designers to build world-class brand and product experiences in a creative, focused environment.

Our broader Design team works across many types of product initiatives at Stripe—from our brand voice and websites to events, web and mobile products, primary qualitative and quantitative research, and even printed publications. And since Stripe’s main audience is other people who build products, we agonize over and take pride in crafting user-friendly and user-focused experiences.

What you’ll do

Product Design Managers at Stripe have strong, proven experience in design, communication and people management skills. You’ll be a thoughtful team leader and manager, ensuring our products and features are the best in class for the merchants relying on Stripe to run and operate their businesses. You’ll be responsible for guiding the careers of your team of product designers, user researchers and content designers–working closely with each of them to help them realize their full potential. But Product Design Managers are not just people managers, they’re also strategic leaders in their space. You’ll get to have a hand in helping run your product space alongside engineering and product partners to define and craft vision, strategy, and roadmaps across teams.

Responsibilities

  • Influence stakeholders and leadership across functions on design vision and strategy
  • Develop strong perspective on our Data, Reporting, and Accounting products and successfully advocate for it across the organization and company
  • Hire, mentor and manage world class designers that consistently deliver on projects and ensure they’re balanced across different skill sets
  • Manage team performance, health, resource allocation and advocacy, project prioritization, and fostering a trusting and collaborative design environment
  • Contribute to high-level, forward thinking, strategic decisions with the rest of the product and executive teams

Who you are

We're looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in Product Design
  • 3+ years of design leadership experience with direct reports under your guidance and leadership
  • Experience building and shipping applications or software across a variety of platforms
  • Experience leading product direction and strategic thinking on a cross-functional team
  • Experience representing work to a broader product team and other leaders, clearly and succinctly communicating goals and concepts
  • A portfolio demonstrating relevant work and understanding of best practices in design

Preferred qualifications

  • Are a champion of simplicity and high craftsmanship
  • Experience coaching designers into places of high impact aligned with their strengths and goals
  • Can manage multiple simultaneous projects on different timelines and quickly adapt to unexpected changes to plan and process
  • Experience with data visualization and reporting products
  • Experience with accounting experiences
  • Thrive in and encourage collaborative work environments while not hesitating to own, define, and deliver on complex and ambiguous tasks, projects, and programs
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

This role is available either in an office or a remote location (35+ miles or 56+ km from a Stripe office).

Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams.
A remote location is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of our offices. While you would be welcome to come into the office for team/business meetings, on-sites, meet-ups, and events, our expectation is you would regularly work from home rather than a Stripe office. Stripe does not cover the cost of relocating to a remote location. We encourage you to apply for roles that match the location where you currently live or plan to live.

The annual salary range for this role in the primary location is CA$197,400 - CA$296,000. This range may change if you are hired in another location. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings (“OTE”) range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and specific location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the primary location may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.

Specific benefits and details about what compensation is included in the salary range listed above will vary depending on the applicant’s location and can be discussed in more detail during the interview process. Benefits/additional compensation for this role may include: equity, company bonus or sales commissions/bonuses; retirement plans; health benefits; and wellness stipends.
