Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

The Billing organization at Stripe builds and operates Stripe Billing. Stripe Billing is a growing product vertical inside of Stripe. Hundreds of thousands of businesses of all sizes and types use Stripe Billing to drive their revenue engines and operate their business models. Stripe Billing enables customers to collect revenue for recurring and one-time payments across a variety of different pricing models. It provides advanced features like revenue retention and recovery, enabling customers to retain their users and grow their businesses. Our work on Stripe Billing spans multiple technologies and product domains. To support even the most unique and complex business models, our technology and products must be configurable and programmable. This requires our team to innovate in how we model different types of businesses, and how we use technology to enable customers to piece together Stripe’s Billing’s platform primitives into holistic solutions that support any type of business. Through this work, Stripe Billing allows worry-free innovation and evolution of any customer’s business model. Stripe is defining the industry’s approach to Billing solutions; we’re looking for innovators to join us.

What you’ll do

As an engineer on the team, you’ll be responsible for shaping and building a suite of products that let our users model and operate their business more efficiently. We’re looking for engineers who are excited to build the future of hosted UIs, high-polish user experiences, reusable APIs and building blocks for our Billing, and world-class infrastructure.

Full stack engineers at Stripe push us further towards that goal by bridging the gap between backend and frontend systems to solve technical challenges quickly and effectively. You will work on projects that span technologies, systems, and processes where you will design, build, test, and ship great code every day. In this cross functional role, you will collaborate with experts in infrastructure, security, design, and operations to build mission critical internal and external features that power Stripe users around the world.

Responsibilities

  • Scope, architect, and lead technical projects to improve existing features and solve new problems.
  • Design, build, and maintain user-facing experiences, services, APIs, and systems.
  • Make effective tradeoffs that consider business priorities, user experience, and a sustainable technical foundation.
  • Debug production issues across services and multiple levels of the stack.
  • Develop and execute against both short- and long-term roadmaps.
  • Teach and mentor engineers to grow into the next generation of leaders at Stripe.
  • Partner with engineers and product managers on infrastructure and other product teams to ensure your features are part of an integrated Stripe suite.
  • Establish and uphold best practices in engineering, security, and technical design

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • 3+ years of experience building back-end distributed systems, data processing systems, or front-end applications.
  • You have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • You enjoy learning about the businesses that use Stripe and building products to help them solve their problems.
  • You work collaboratively cross-functionally and with stakeholders across teams and organization boundaries.
  • You value and enjoy working with a diverse group of people with different expertise.

Preferred qualifications

  • Familiarity with large scale distributed systems or big data processing systems.
  • Experience working in high-growth teams similar to Stripe.
  • Experience building financial systems or tools for financial experts.
  • You have experience mentoring junior engineers.
Office-assigned Stripes spend at least 50% of the time in a given month in their local office or with users. This hits a balance between bringing people together for in-person collaboration and learning from each other, while supporting flexibility about how to do this in a way that makes sense for individuals and their teams.
