About the team

Stripe’s Revenue and Financial Automation (“RFA”) organization develops non-payments software as a service tools. The team is building a revenue-focused financial automation platform. They aspire to build an online, real time system of record for Stripe users’ revenue - building first party products related to revenue and financial management and tools to integrate with third parties. RFA’s products can be used alongside Stripe services or on their own. Lawyers on the RFA legal team coordinate the legal support for some of Stripe’s highest growth potential products. Today, this suite of products includes Billing (subscriptions and invoicing), Revenue Automation (Revenue Recognition, Reporting, and Reconciliation), Stripe Tax, Data Services (Stripe Data Pipeline and Stripe Sigma), and Stripe Atlas.

What you’ll do

We’re looking for someone who is a team player and willing to jump in on tasks of any size. Broad experience in technology, data protection and privacy, partnership commercial issues and experience with developer platforms is a huge plus. In this role, you will join a team of product counsel who support the suite of products currently grouped together within the RFA organization.

Responsibilities

  • Counsel the global product team on a range of issues including data protection and privacy law, consumer protection, product development, and marketing as it relates to the RFA products
  • Closely collaborate with teams across Stripe (including, engineering, partnerships, privacy and security teams) to deliver pragmatic and actionable legal advice to your clients on a range of issues related to the product development lifecycle - from initial scoping to launch
  • Draft, review, and update internal and external-facing foundational terms and documents for the RFA products and service offerings
  • Stay up-to-date (with the support of Stripe’s many legal subject matter experts) on laws and regulations dealing with consumer financial data access; analyze laws, regulatory updates, industry trends to proactively advise clients of potential product impacts
  • Participate as a proactive business partner to your product team and build a trusted advisor relationship offering key legal and strategic business input in evolving Stripe and the RFA product roadmap and strategy
  • Develop deep subject matter expertise of the Financial Connections product and serve as a legal team member point of contact for escalations and questions related to Financial Connections

Who you are

Minimum requirements

  • 7+ years of demonstrated experience either as a qualified lawyer in a top law firm or in-house legal team working with technology companies (ideally the law that applies to cloud-based API service providers) on the legal and regulatory aspects of product development in the technology space
  • Proficiency in, and passion for, working with technology and ability to understand complex operational and business models as well as multiple product use cases quickly
  • A self-starter and self-learner who thrives in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple work streams and priorities simultaneously and efficiently
  • Someone with an ownership mentality that deals well with ambiguity, prides themselves on having excellent judgment and making decisions with limited information
  • Strong communication and relational skills and can work well cross-functionally with a sense of urgency, while remaining highly collaborative and fun
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills to stay on top of shifting priorities and thrives working under tight deadlines
  • A background in technology law, excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strategic thinking to enable business partners to make decisions that are grounded in a practical application of the law, the technology, and the business goals
A remote location, in most cases, is defined as being 35 miles (56 kilometers) or more from one of our offices. While you would be welcome to come into the office for team/business meetings, on-sites, meet-ups, and events, our expectation is you would regularly work from home rather than a Stripe office. Stripe does not cover the cost of relocating to a remote location. We encourage you to apply for roles that match the location where you currently or plan to live.

The annual US base salary range for this role is $202,500 - $303,800. For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role. This salary range may be inclusive of several career levels at Stripe and will be narrowed during the interview process based on a number of factors, including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and location. Applicants interested in this role and who are not located in the US may request the annual salary range for their location during the interview process.
