Who we are

About Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

The Bank Transfers team is building out support for Bank Transfer payments on Stripe, allowing customers to pay by pushing funds directly from their bank account. Our product smooths over the rough edges of sending money via banking rails and automates reconciliation of incoming transactions, saving customers time and money.

Bank Transfers are a popular option for high order value and B2B payments due to their low fees. Our product is mission critical to users in a variety of categories, including several household names in SaaS, automotive and online auctions.

You will be joining an existing team in London and will drive a variety of user-facing projects while also mentoring and growing others on the team. The product is expanding rapidly - we support 6 countries at present, with a roadmap of countries to still build, each with their own challenges. We’re also working on expanding our support for international Bank Transfers to support global customers who accept payment from customers around the world.

What you’ll do

As an engineer on the team, you’ll be responsible for shaping and building a suite of products that let our users model and operate their business more efficiently. You will work on projects that span technologies, systems, and processes where you will design, build, test, and ship great code every day. In this cross functional role, you will collaborate with experts in infrastructure, security, design, and operations to build mission critical internal and external features that power Stripe users around the world. You’ll also be jumping on user calls with some of Stripe’s highest profile users and iterating on our product with them to help it meet their needs.

Responsibilities

  • Scope and lead large technical projects with enormous impact for our users globally.
  • Scrutinize and reason clearly about the technology and architecture choices we make in building these products. In many cases, you will be the decider of these decisions.
  • Directly contribute to core interface design and write code. Serve as a role model for how great software should be written for Stripe as a whole.
  • Arbitrate critical decisions correctly that fully consider software best practices, Stripe system realities, and numerous stakeholders’ preferences and concerns.
  • Work effectively cross functionally.
  • Collaborate closely with partners and customers to launch new products and listen to their feedback.
  • Teach and mentor the next generation of technical leaders at Stripe.

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • You have 3+ years of experience as a software engineer.
  • You have an entrepreneurial mindset.
  • You enjoy data modeling challenges and have a high bar for keeping your solutions expressive yet simple to use.
  • Enjoy being a generalist designing and working on both the frontend and/or backend, and anything it takes to solve problems and delight users.
  • Take pride in working on projects to successful completion involving a wide variety of technologies and systems.
  • Can stitch together many different services and processes together even if you have not worked with them before.
  • Can put yourself in the shoes of your users and be a steward of crafting great experiences.
  • Thrive in a collaborative environment involving different stakeholders.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in systems engineering on large scale testing, as well as reliability, security, and observability
  • Prior knowledge in financial technology space, particularly in payment processing
