We are hiring a Statehouse Reporter, Wisconsin, to join our team located in Madison, Wisconsin.
As the Statehouse Reporter, Wisconsin, you will:
- Work collaboratively with others to tell impactful stories across platforms.
- Report and write short-form and long-form stories on deadline for email products and the website.
- Strive to own beats, breaking news in day-to-day coverage through source-driven stories.
- Co-write the DC Wrap newsletter on Wisconsin’s congressional delegation.
- Produce podcasts.
- Edit and send email products to subscribers, as well as posting content to the website via WordPress.
Essential Qualifications for this position include:
- 1+ years of professional work experience as a reporter
- Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or related field
- Ability to report stories based on human sources more than press releases
- Ability to commit to nonpartisan news coverage
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including editing and storytelling abilities
- Knowledge of the principles of journalism, ethical guidelines, and legal considerations
- Knowledge of digital publishing platforms and social media platforms
Preferred Qualifications for this position include:
- Prior professional work experience as a reporter with a focus on politics and policy
- Prior professional work experience in a start-up organization
This is an in-office work opportunity that operates out of the Wisconsin Statehouse and State Affairs office located in Madison, Wisconsin. State Affairs offers a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package to employees.
The final job level and annual salary will be determined based on the education, qualification, knowledge, skills, ability, and experience of the final candidate(s), and calibrated against relevant market data and internal team equity.
