Job Overview:

The Financial Controller will a pivotal role in our company, ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and integrity of our financial operations. The Financial Controller will oversee the accounting operations, including the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with respective regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Financial Reporting and Compliance:
    • Manage the preparation of the company’s financial statements in compliance with official guidelines and requirements.
    • Oversee the accounting operations, especially their control systems, transaction-processing operations, and policies and procedures.
  • Budget Management and Forecasting:
    • Oversee budgeting, financial forecasting, and cash flow for the company, implementing rigorous financial controls and processes.
    • Analyze financial data and performance, providing actionable insights to optimize financial performance and strategic decision-making.
  • Cash Management and Treasury:
    • Manage the company’s cash flow and prepare cash flow forecasts in accordance with policy.
    • Develop and maintain systems of internal controls to safeguard financial assets of the organization.
  • Audit and Tax:
    • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
    • Coordinate the provision of information to external auditors for audits as relevant.
  • Operational Efficiency:
    • Streamline accounting functions and operations, develop business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
    • Evaluate the effectiveness of accounting software and supporting database, as needed.
  • Vendor and IT Management:
    • Establish key vendor relationships, including legal counsel, banking partners, and tax advisors, to support the company's operational and strategic needs.
    • Oversee the information technology strategy, ensuring the infrastructure meets the company's operational and security requirements.
  • Facility and Real Estate Oversight:
    • Manage the company's facilities and real estate requirements, including leasing strategies and budgeting to optimize the company's physical presence.
  • Legal and Regulatory Compliance:
    • Oversee the drafting and negotiation of legal contracts and ensure the company adheres to all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Stakeholder Management
    • Collaborate with the executive team to identify and pursue strategic business opportunities, partnerships, and acquisitions.
    • Prepare and present financial models and investment memorandums, ensuring transparent and effective communication regarding the company’s financial status and prospects.
    • Support fundraising initiatives, engaging with potential investors
    • Negotiate contracts and agreements with partners, vendors, and customers, optimizing terms to support the company’s financial and strategic goals.
    • Lead all aspects of corporate governance relating to financial operations, ensuring compliance with statutory and fiscal regulations.
    • Act as the chief financial spokesperson for the organization, representing the company to banks, financial partners, institutions, investors, public auditors, and officials.

Company Leadership and Development:

  • Help foster a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Provide financial training and guidance to other departments, enhancing financial literacy and decision-making across the organization.
  • Achieve departmental goals and objectives.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven working experience as a Financial Controller, with a deep understanding of corporate accounting and financial management.
  • A minimum of 5-10 years of accounting and finance experience. Experience in the healthcare, biotech, or medtech sectors is highly regarded.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and procedures, including the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Experience with creating financial statements, general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process.
  • Excellent accounting software user and administration skills.
  • Analytical ability to develop and implement improvements or recommendations.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Attention to detail, the ability to multi-task and work under tight deadlines.
  • Bachelor’s or Graduate degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. CPA or CMA preferred.
