About the Team

Scribd has an immense content catalog & millions of users which means you will be able to tackle exciting & challenging projects. The software you will write will have a big impact for our company, our product and our users.
This team works on development & product tools that involve topics such as optimization, profiling, observability, debugging, infrastructure development & systems API design. The team uses a wide variety of technologies but predominantly works with Ruby on Rails, Go, MySQL and Redis.
We’re looking for strong engineers with exceptional problem-solving skills who are comfortable working independently and driving large, complex projects. You’re comfortable dealing with lots of moving pieces. You have exquisite attention to detail. You’re comfortable learning new technologies and systems. Collaboration, time management, and communication are as important as your technical skills.
Some of our recent projects include:
- Building and operating our remote development environment & evolving it to support Scribd’s future architecture vision.
- Rethinking our organization's approach & tooling around performance optimization and quality tracking, observability and awareness
- Modernizing our tool suite - with newer & better maintained open-source alternatives, or more performant technologies & implementations.
- Integration of a modern experimentation platform to support to evolve our experiment culture both on the product and internal systems
About you
- Strong background with 5 or more years of work experience.
- Strong SQL skills and the ability to analyze large and complex datasets
- Experience with a number of Ruby, Go, Python.
- Interest in building high-impact tools and successful internal products.
- Experience shipping clean, maintainable code that works.
- Background in algorithms with a focus on applied problem solving.
At Scribd, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package and is determined within a range. Our pay ranges are based on the local cost of labor benchmarks for each specific role, level, and geographic location. San Francisco is our highest geographic market in the United States. In the state of California, the reasonably expected salary range is between $136,000 [minimum salary in our lowest geographic market within California] to $220,000 [maximum salary in our highest geographic market within California].
In the United States, outside of California, the reasonably expected salary range is between $112,000 [minimum salary in our lowest US geographic market outside of California] to $209,000 [maximum salary in our highest US geographic market outside of California].
We carefully consider a wide range of factors when determining compensation, including but not limited to experience; job-related skill sets; relevant education or training; and other business and organizational needs. The salary range listed is for the level at which this job has been scoped. In the event that you are considered for a different level, a higher or lower pay range would apply. This position is also eligible for a competitive equity ownership, and a comprehensive and generous benefits package.
