General Robotics is building the future of general robot intelligence. Our mission is to enable rapid, robust, and safe deployment of general intelligence for autonomous systems and robotics. Our core platform, GRID, provides a comprehensive source of robot skills through a fast cloud-native runtime to make any robot intelligent - across aerial, wheeled, humanoid, quadruped, arm robots and more.
We are seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer (AI) to act as the primary technical bridge between the GRID platform and our customers’ real-world AI needs. You’ll have the rare opportunity to work on the world’s most cutting edge Physical AI solutions, and deploy into mission-critical production environments. You will contribute to the core GRID platform, translating repeatable patterns into features and automation. This role offers a front seat to the transformative impact of Physical AI in industry and an opportunity to learn from, and work alongside a world-class team of AI and robotics pioneers.
Responsibilities
Adapt standard machine learning models and frameworks to robotics applications (e.g. computer vision, SLAM, navigation)
Work with high fidelity simulation platforms for synthetic data generation.
Lead data collection campaigns for customer projects, including synthetic data from simulations, teleoperations, and motion capture
Diagnose and resolve complex technical issues related to GRID and AI model performance.
Act as a technical liaison between the customer and internal research teams.
Identify and drive opportunities for scaling customer value, including new use cases.
Translate field-tested patterns and customer requirements into scalable, automated features for the GRID platform.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Research or applied experience in machine learning, robotics, and computer vision.
Experience developing robotics algorithms or machine learning models at scale.
Programming proficiency in Python/C++ and a strong understanding of deep learning frameworks like PyTorch or JAX.
Ability to travel up to 50% to customer sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's/PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, relevant technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Direct experience in robotics, computer vision, or machine learning research.
Experience with high fidelity simulation platforms such as AirSim, CARLA, Isaac Sim, Mujoco, Maniskill among others.
Experience building efficient robotics pipelines involving sensor fusion and model inference
Experience working with modern computer vision algorithms and sensors (RGB, RGB-D cameras, LIDAR.), 3D (meshes, point clouds, etc.), segmentation, tracking, detection.
Good understanding of systems considerations and the ability to factor these into model choices.
