About the Role
We're looking for a Backend Intern to join Sarvam's engineering team and work on real,
production-scale systems. You'll contribute to backend services, APIs, and data pipelines that
power AI products used at population scale across India. Strong performers will be fast-tracked to
a full-time offer at the end of the internship. Preferred background: AI/ML or Computer Science.
What You'll Do
• Build and maintain backend services and REST APIs in Python or Node.js
• Design and query SQL and NoSQL databases for AI-driven applications
• Integrate LLM APIs (such as OpenAI, Anthropic, or Sarvam's own models) into product
features
• Build and maintain data pipelines to support model training and inference workflows
• Deploy and manage services on cloud infrastructure (AWS or GCP)
• Collaborate closely with engineers and researchers to ship features end-to-end
What We're Looking For
• Proficiency in Python or Node.js; comfortable writing clean, maintainable backend code
• Working knowledge of REST API design and implementation
• Familiarity with SQL and at least one NoSQL database (e.g. MongoDB, Redis, or
DynamoDB)
• Basic exposure to cloud platforms — AWS or GCP
• Interest in LLMs and experience or willingness to work with LLM APIs
• Background in Computer Science, AI, or Machine Learning preferred
Bonus Points
• Prior internship or project experience with data pipelines or ML infrastructure
• Contributions to open-source projects
• Hands-on experience with vector databases or embedding workflows
• Familiarity with containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes)
