About the Team

Corporate accounting’s mission is to create value to the Company through integrity, leadership and business partnership. Our primary responsibility is to prepare and report the consolidated financial statements to senior management and to enhance the Company in making informative business decisions. This position will work closely with the People Operations and Accounting & Finance teams to improve overall processes and will provide exceptional internal customer service.

About the Role

As the Payroll Specialist, you’ll have the opportunity to grow and support the finance team in a fast-paced startup environment. Reporting to the Payroll Manager, this individual will assist with day-to-day payroll activities, including researching and responding to payroll related inquiries. You will also be a key member of the payroll reconciliation, month end close process and support financial audit of the Company. A successful candidate will be comfortable taking on various projects and supporting the team as the company continues to grow.


Qualifications

  • Process payroll for multi-state employees (Semi-monthly payroll)
  • Ensure all new hires and payroll related changes are properly accounted for within the payroll system
  • Process off-cycle payrolls as needed for terminations, adjustments, etc.
  • Review and validate timesheets thoroughly and timely through time and attendance software
  • Be a resource to employees to provide them with an understanding of the payroll process as well as assisting with employee questions regarding pay
  • Review and coordinate administration of garnishments, support payments, and other required withholdings and respond to inquiries from government agencies
  • Book Payroll Journal into Accounting General Ledger and Reconcile Payroll Balance Sheet Accounts as part of Month-end close
  • Manage payroll tax registration, filing, and reporting quarterly and annually
  • Review and circulate monthly and quarterly reports from payroll system as well as create ad-hoc reports as needed
  • Conduct year-end reporting for W-2's, and process the amendment for W-2c
  • Help in designing, maintaining, and managing payroll system to ensure compliance with all applicable state and federal laws while also ensuring that system is meeting desired internal business needs

Requirements

  • Minimum 3-5 years' experience with multi-state payroll
  • Experience with ADP is preferred
  • Payroll Journal Booking and Payroll Accounts Reconciliation Experience
  • Intermediate Excel skills (Pivot Table and Vlookup is a must)
  • Knowledge in relevant federal and state wage and hour laws
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral, and written communication skills
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or closely related field
  • Knowledge of NetSuite is optional
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment

Location

This position is classified as HYBRID within the Greater Oakland Area. with an expectation to be in-office on Tuesdays and Thursdays weekly.

Compensation

$80,000 - $95,000 range on annual base salary. The compensation range may be adjusted based on experience and location.

Pay Transparency

Our compensation reflects several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position represents the expected salary for this position. Ultimately, in determining your pay it will be based on several factors including location, job-related knowledge, skills, experience and other job related factors. Roofstock is a total compensation company; the base salary is only part of our total compensation package.
