Based out of Rocket Lab's Launch Complex 2 (LC-2) in Wallops Island, VA, the Ground Systems Engineer II, Fluids is responsible for leading the design, build, testing and commissioning of mechanical launch pad and local test sites for Neutron, including fluid systems, supporting structures and mechanisms. You will support the Director of Test and Launch Operations and Ground Systems team, supporting Neutron development and test at Wallops Island.
WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO:
- As a Ground Systems Engineer II you will be responsible for design, draft, and analysis of launch range systems including but not limited to:
- Cryogenics
- Vehicle Support equipment
- Component selection: Mechanisms, valving. piping, filtration, flow, pressure and temperature measurement, system feedback etc.
- Gas systems
- P&IDs
- 2D & 3D modelling using CAD software
- Design for high vibration, harsh, and hazardous environments
- Launch vehicle umbilical and interfaces
- Develop and maintain BOMs
- Interact with suppliers and internal teams
- Support certification of launch pad systems where applicable
- Support maintenance program development
YOU’LL BRING THESE QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical, process or structural engineering, or other technical discipline
- 2+ years of industry experience
- Hands-on experience with fluid equipment or testing apparatus
- Ability to read, understand, and produce schematics, blueprints, and/or diagrams (i.e. P&IDs)
THESE QUALIFICATIONS WOULD BE NICE TO HAVE:
- Experience with design, commissioning, operation and maintenance of fluid systems to national and/or international codes and standards
- Experience leading complex engineering projects
- Experience with launch pad systems OR oil and gas, process, mining, or other similar industry. This role is not limited to those with prior launch system experience.
- Experience with NX, Teamcenter, Draftsight would be an asset
- Experience with structural design and analysis
- Experience with design of fluid systems to PEPCR, ASME, ASTM and/or NASA Ground system standards would be an asset
