About the role
The Flight Software Team provides critical support to vehicle systems during launch and on orbit, operating launch vehicle and spacecraft avionics, collecting and distributing telemetry and commands, and hosting guidance, navigation and control software and algorithms. 
  
Within the Flight Software Team, the Ground Segment Engineer is responsible for creation, maintenance and support of software components that receive, process, and distribute telemetry from Rocket Lab’s launch vehicles and satellites. The role will require working closely with stakeholders such as the RF team, as well as external parties that operate our global network of ground stations.
  
Essential skills

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or demonstrated equivalent level of knowledge.
  • Minimum of 3 years experience within a software engineering related discipline
  • Modern C++ (14 or above) development.
  • Linux networked application development.
  • Source control such as Git.
  • Issue trackers such as Jira.

Desirable skills

  • Experience with high-reliability software systems.
  • Knowledge of radio communications and related technologies e.g., Software Defined Radio, Reed-Solomon or LDPC encoding schemes.
  • Knowledge of the CCSDS standards including Space Data Link (SDL)
  • Knowledge of embedded software development fundamentals
  • Linux kernel development
