Simulation Engineer
Software Engineering
Asheville, NC, USA
Position Overview
A global leader in advanced automotive technology is seeking an Applications CAE Analyst / Simulation Engineer to join its engineering team in Arden, North Carolina.
This role is focused on using advanced simulation tools to evaluate and validate product designs before physical prototypes are built. The successful candidate will perform structural, thermal, fluid, and dynamic analyses to support the development of highly engineered rotating equipment and turbocharger systems.
This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with 2-5 years of simulation experience who wants to work alongside senior analysts while expanding their expertise in CFD, FEA, thermal analysis, fatigue prediction, and product performance optimization.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Simulation & Analysis
- Perform structural, thermal, fluid, modal, and dynamic analyses using ANSYS and related simulation tools.
- Evaluate product designs to determine performance, durability, reliability, and suitability for application requirements.
- Conduct CFD and FEA studies to support product development and engineering decisions.
- Analyze thermal, structural, and aerodynamic performance of advanced mechanical systems.
- Support fatigue, creep, lifetime prediction, and durability studies for rotating equipment.
Product Development Support
- Partner with product development teams to improve product reliability and performance.
- Provide engineering recommendations based on simulation results.
- Assist with design optimization initiatives and engineering problem-solving efforts.
- Support validation activities and investigate product performance concerns.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare detailed technical reports documenting simulation results and engineering recommendations.
- Maintain analysis records and engineering documentation.
- Present findings and recommendations to engineering teams and project stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement
- Participate in ongoing development of simulation methodologies and best practices.
- Support efforts to automate analysis processes through scripting and tool development.
- Stay current on emerging simulation technologies and engineering techniques.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME)
- 2-5 years of engineering simulation or CAE experience
- Experience performing structural, thermal, and fluid analyses
- Experience using ANSYS simulation software
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred
- Master's Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Experience with CFD and FEA methodologies
- Experience analyzing rotating equipment, turbomachinery, engines, or powertrain systems
- Thermal fatigue, creep analysis, or conjugate heat transfer experience
- Experience with fatigue and life prediction calculations
- Exposure to scripting or automation tools such as Python
- Experience with Creo or similar CAD software
- Design optimization and DOE experience
- Formula SAE (FSAE) participation or related collegiate engineering projects
Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate is a mechanically minded engineer who enjoys solving complex engineering problems through simulation and analysis. Rather than designing parts directly, this engineer will help determine whether designs will perform successfully under real-world operating conditions before physical prototypes are built.
Candidates from automotive, aerospace, turbomachinery, engine development, rotating equipment, or advanced product development environments are highly encouraged to apply.
