Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the day-to-day operations of the Laser Department on day shift
  • Lead, develop, and supervise laser department personnel, including operators and programmers
  • Oversee production scheduling, workflow, and resource allocation to ensure on-time delivery and maximum machine utilization
  • Provide technical leadership and support for both 3-axis and 5-axis laser operations
  • Troubleshoot production, programming, and machine-related issues to minimize downtime
  • Ensure quality standards are maintained across all laser cutting operations
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on efficiency, throughput, scrap reduction, and process optimization
  • Monitor department KPIs and production metrics to improve performance and accountability
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, quality, maintenance, and production teams
  • Support quoting and feasibility reviews as needed for laser-related work
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and efficient work environment in compliance with company standards
  • Assist in training and mentoring team members on best practices, programming, and machine operation

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience managing a laser department in a manufacturing environment
  • Hands-on experience with both 3-axis and 5-axis laser machines
  • Strong working knowledge of Mitsubishi, Prima, and Mazak laser systems
  • Previous leadership experience managing production teams in a laser-focused environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Experience using Cenit software for offline programming
  • Strong understanding of laser cutting processes, programming, tooling, setup, and production flow
  • Proven ability to lead teams, improve processes, and drive department performance
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Preferred Background

  • Experience working for a direct competitor or within a highly similar laser-focused manufacturing environment strongly preferred
  • Proven track record of improving laser department efficiency, output, and quality
  • Experience in high-volume, fast-paced production environments
