We are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to design workholding fixtures and mechanical components for CNC metal removal machines and special-purpose equipment.
This role works closely with other engineering teams to support projects from design through manufacturing. The engineer will also provide support to manufacturing and service as needed.
Responsibilities
- Design workholding fixtures based on customer part datum, machining process, and cutting forces
- Design mechanical fixtures and devices using standard mechanical design principles
- Select materials and understand basic heat treat applications
- Apply proper component sizing, fits, and tolerances
- Use and apply GD&T correctly on mechanical drawings
- Support development of new workholding concepts and technologies
- Work with Electrical, Software, and Manufacturing teams to ensure designs are understood and buildable
- Create designs using AutoCAD, Siemens NX, or similar 3D CAD software
- Create and maintain Bills of Material (BOMs) in the PLM system
- Release drawings and BOMs for manufacturing and manage design changes
- Participate in design reviews and communicate project status
- Support suppliers and internal teams during build and assembly
- Provide engineering support for service and field issues as needed
- Maintain basic design documentation and records
- Follow quality, safety, and environmental procedures
- Stay current on new tools, equipment, and design practices
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
- 5+ years of mechanical design experience (fixtures, tooling, or machinery preferred)
- Experience with CNC machining or manufacturing environments
- Ability to read and create mechanical drawings using GD&T
- Experience with 3D CAD software (AutoCAD, Siemens NX, or similar)
