About Relation
Relation is a sector defining TechBio company developing transformational medicines, with technology at our core. Our ambition is to understand human biology in unprecedented ways, discovering therapies to treat some of life’s most devastating diseases. We leverage single-cell multi-omics from patient tissue, functional assays, and machine learning to drive disease understanding, from cause to cure.
We are scaling rapidly and building a team of exceptional individuals to push the boundaries of drug discovery. You will work in highly interdisciplinary teams where biology, computation, and engineering come together to solve complex problems that have not been solved before. Our state-of-the-art wet and dry labs in the heart of London are designed to accelerate this integration and translate insight into impact.
We are committed to building diverse and inclusive teams. Relation is an equal opportunities employer and does not discriminate on the basis of gender, sexual orientation, marital or civil partnership status, gender reassignment, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief, disability, or age.
By joining Relation, you will help define how medicines are discovered and deliver meaningful impact for patients.
The opportunity
Relation is offering an outstanding opportunity for a Director Clinical Pharmacology to help drive our growing discovery and development portfolio. This role will power translation, continuously improve the accuracy of predictions and accelerate the development of novel medicines.
You will work across Translational Safety, in vivo Pharmacology and Biomarkers to drive end-to-end asset development across the entire value chain — from target assessment through to clinical support — continuously improving predictive accuracy and optimising dosing strategies for the target patient populations.
Sitting within Relation's Drug Discovery team, this position is deeply embedded within cross-functional matrix project teams and will support multiple disease areas as our portfolio grows. In this position, you will play a critical role in the scientific advancement of nonclinical and clinical programmes by serving as the core quantitative and clinical pharmacology lead within project teams. You will drive all aspects of clinical pharmacology across all development phases and strategically apply Model-Informed Drug Development (MIDD) approaches to understand and translate non-clinical PK/PD into human drug development strategies, optimise trial design, justify dose selections, inform development decisions and mitigate risk across early and late-stage development. Your scope will be modality-agnostic, giving you oversight that spans small molecules, large molecules, and novel platforms.
The role is a hybrid role based at our state-of-the-art facility in the heart of London.
Day to day, you will
Build and own the clinical pharmacology and pharmacometric capability to support Relation's product development goals, setting standards for excellence and championing innovative approaches to drive data-informed decisions.
Act as the Clinical Pharmacology lead for multiple concurrent programmes across indications and therapeutic modalities. Oversee clinical pharmacology input into study design across the full range of development, from IND-enabling and dedicated Phase 1 clinical pharmacology studies through Phase 2 and 3 trials.
Work across Translational Safety, Translational Pharmacology and Biomarkers to integrate nonclinical and clinical data, continuously improving predictive accuracy.
Lead modelling and simulation approaches, non-clinical to clinical PK/PD, DDI risk assessment, PBPK, population PK/PD and QSP approaches to characterise developability, exposure-response relationships, support dose and regimen selection and define quantitative criteria for data-driven decisions.
Lead and manage external collaborations and CRO partnerships, ensuring effective execution, clear prioritisation and delivery against timelines, budgets and project goals.
Author relevant sections of regulatory documents, including Investigator's Brochures, INDs and NDA/BLA/MAA submissions serving as the clinical pharmacology expert in interactions with regulators.
Proactively identify and incorporate emerging AI-enabled approaches into clinical pharmacology workflows, using data analytics and evidence-based tools to sharpen decision-making.
Interface closely with cross-functional teams, including DMPK, translational safety and toxicology, biology, clinical operations and regulatory affairs, to ensure clinical pharmacology considerations are embedded in development plans.
Translate quantitative and biology data into clear, actionable insights, communicating findings effectively to project teams and senior stakeholders.
Maintain rigorous documentation standards across modelling packages, protocols, and study reports.
Champion Relation's collaborative, ambitious and science-driven culture, sharing quantitative expertise across the team and helping build an outstanding drug discovery organisation.
Professionally, you will have
A PhD, PharmD, or MD with a specialisation in DMPK, Pharmacometrics, in vivo/Clinical Pharmacology, or a related scientific discipline, or equivalent industry experience in a lead Quantitative Clinical Pharmacology position.
Significant experience in the pharmaceutical or biotech industry in Quantitative Clinical Pharmacology, spanning all stages of development. You will have a strong understanding of drug discovery, non-clinical and clinical development with a proven track record of applying Model-Informed Drug Development (MIDD) principles. Experience across therapeutic modalities, small molecules, biologics and novel platforms alike, would be beneficial.
A strong foundation of in vivo Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology principles and quantitative drug development, with demonstrable experience applying advanced quantitative modelling (proven proficiency in core pharmacometric software such as NONMEM, R, Monolix, WinNonlin, GastroPlus, SimCyp), data analytics, and emerging AI-enabled approaches to support evidence-based decision making. You understand the regulatory landscape and how to integrate diverse data (nonclinical, translational and clinical) for efficient development.
Outstanding communication skills, with a clear ability to translate complex quantitative data into actionable strategic messages for cross-functional teams, stakeholders and senior leadership.
Personally, you
