About Relation

Relation is an end-to-end biotech company developing transformational medicines, with technology at our core. Our ambition is to understand human biology in unprecedented ways, discovering therapies to treat some of life’s most devastating diseases. We leverage single-cell multi-omics directly from patient tissue, functional assays, and machine learning to drive disease understanding—from cause to cure.

This year, we embarked on an exciting dual collaboration with GSK to tackle fibrosis and osteoarthritis, while also advancing our own internal osteoporosis programme. By combining our cutting-edge ML capabilities with GSK’s deep expertise in drug discovery, this partnership underscores our commitment to pioneering science and delivering impactful therapies to patients.

We are rapidly scaling our technology and discovery teams, offering a unique opportunity to join one of the most innovative TechBio companies. Be part of our dynamic, interdisciplinary teams, collaborating closely to redefine the boundaries of possibility in drug discovery. Our state-of-the-art wet and dry laboratories, located in the heart of London, provide an exceptional environment to foster interdisciplinarity and turn groundbreaking ideas into impactful therapies for patients.

We are committed to building diverse and inclusive teams. Relation is an equal opportunities employer and does not discriminate on the grounds of gender, sexual orientation, marital or civil partner status, gender reassignment, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief, disability, or age. We cultivate innovation through collaboration, empowering every team member to do their best work and reach their highest potential.

By joining Relation, you will become part of an exceptionally talented team with extraordinary leverage to advance the field of drug discovery. Your work will shape our culture, strategic direction, and, most importantly, impact patients’ lives.

The opportunity

Relation is offering an outstanding opportunity for a Data Governance Lead to scale our data governance practice and help make data a shared, trusted, and valuable asset across the company. As Relation grows its scientific and machine learning capabilities, you will play a key role in ensuring that internal datasets are documented, accessible, reusable, and compliant. You will collaborate closely with technical, scientific, and operational teams to build an integrated, actionable data ecosystem, embedding FAIR principles into the way we manage and use data. This role is critical to enabling effective cross-functional collaboration and maximising the value of our internal data assets.

Your responsibilities

  • Define and implement standards for metadata, documentation, structure, format, and ownership to align internal datasets with FAIR principles

  • Coordinate data stewardship efforts with users across Data Science, Machine Learning, Wet Lab & Discovery, and support good data management practices

  • Lead the evolution of the internal data catalogue and drive its adoption across technical and non-technical users

  • Support the implementation of no-code exploration tools for lab and scientific teams

  • Develop processes and solutions to enable decision traceability, knowledge continuity, and robust data documentation

  • Establish effective governance policies around naming, versioning, data lineage, and retention

  • Translate regulatory and licensing requirements into clear, actionable workflows and promote compliance best practices across teams

Professionally, you have

  • A background in bioinformatics and/or scientific data management and/or data engineering and/or product/project management in data domains, with five years of relevant professional experience

  • Familiarity with metadata standards, FAIR principles, and data cataloguing tools

  • Strong cross-functional coordination skills, and an ability to navigate computational, scientific, and compliance contexts

  • A good understanding of Python and modern data workflows

  • Knowledge of scientific data lifecycles, including ingestion, transformation, versioning, and documentation

  • Bonus: exposure to data visualisation tools, no-code platforms, and knowledge management systems

Personally, you are

  • A clear and thoughtful communicator, able to engage with diverse stakeholders across disciplines

  • Structured, pragmatic, willing to get hands-on, and comfortable bringing order and clarity to complex or ambiguous data environments

  • Collaborative by default, with a user-oriented and feedback-driven mindset, and an interest in making data truly usable

  • Curious, autonomous, and proactive, with a strong sense of ownership and a desire to drive continuous improvement

Join us in this exciting role where your contributions will have a direct impact on advancing our understanding of genetics and disease risk, supporting our mission to get transformative medicines to patients. Together, we're not just doing research; we're setting new standards in the field of machine learning and genetics. The patient is waiting!
