Realta Fusion
Realta Fusion is a rapidly growing start-up developing compact magnetic mirror fusion energy systems to address the biggest challenge of our time – tackling global climate change while ensuring a sufficient energy supply for at least ten billion people on (and off) earth. Realta is targeting the need to decarbonize industrial process heat as the fastest path to full-scale deployment of our technology. The Vice President of Engineering & Projects at Realta Fusion is a critical early hire to the Senior Leadership team. This person will be responsible for the delivery of Realta’s next step fusion demonstration device BEAM, including mapping of critical technical milestones, overseeing a realistic costing estimate and establishing the project management framework. The VP of Engineering & Projects will play a key role in recruiting and building the technical team at Realta. This role calls for an experienced technical professional with significant experience in delivery of complex projects and start-up environments.
Responsibilities
- Driving delivery of technical milestones for Realta’s US DoE Milestone-Based Fusion Development Program.
- Working with Senior Leadership to establish intermediate Objectives & Key Results.
- Work in partnership with the scientific team to translate scientific objectives into clear hardware deliverables along the technical path, including support for demonstrations on existing test platforms at partner organizations.
- Planning and overseeing the various technical project streams.
- Providing oversight, direction for work towards OKRs and ensuring delivery of OKRs.
- Recruiting and building the engineering team for Realta Fusion. Direct line management and supervision of the Realta engineering/technical team.
- Identifying key technical tasks and project streams to outsource to external partners, vendors, sub-contractors, etc.
- Work with Senior Leadership team on contracts and partnerships with external third parties.
- Developing strategy for growth of technical team.
- Defining operational requirements (space, software, hardware, etc.) required for technical team.
- Establishing safety culture, policies and practices.

Required Qualifications
- Significant experience in managing and delivering large technical projects involving engineering and design of sophisticated hardware.
- Entrepreneurial experience: Experience with early-stage start-ups is required. Thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic start-up environment, displaying adaptability, resourcefulness, and a passion for driving meaningful change.
- Education: Degree in relevant engineering or technical field. Advanced degree preferred or extensive technical work experience.
- Strategic Thinking: Ability to think strategically and translate strategic goals into actionable operational plans.
- Collaboration: Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) to collaborate effectively with colleagues, external partners, and stakeholders.
