QuantumScape is expanding our Advanced R&D team to the Asia-Pacific region, in our newly established R&D Center in Kyoto, Japan. We are seeking experienced engineers fit for the role of a forward-thinking Senior Battery Research Engineer - Senior Member Technical Staff (SMTS ) that is a versatile researcher who is looking for technical challenges and professional growth. The individual most successful in this new role would be a scientist or engineer with a background in battery research. We are seeking a researcher to further improve the performance of our novel solid-state battery. This role is inherently hands-on in lab and requires a strong understanding of data analysis and experimental rigor.

ROLE & RESPONSIBILITIES
You will join the Japan office for QuantumScape focused on Solid-State Cathode Development
- Execute the development and implementation of all solid-state battery technologies in our Kyoto laboratory.
- Drive innovation through effectively designing and executing experiments to identify suitable designs, processes, and materials for continuous improvement of high energy density QuantumScape battery cell performance
- Conduct thorough testing and analysis to ensure flawless performance of battery systems, and optimize electrode designs to meet requirements from customers and the market
- Perform failure analyses and materials characterization to understand the failure modes and requirements of battery cells and develop novel designs, processes, and materials to overcome those limits
- Work closely with San Jose teams to identify design requirements and specifications and incorporate technologies developed in the Kyoto laboratory.
- Actively participate in technical discussions and contribute to the overall success of the team
- Deliver high-quality technical reports to the global R&D team
- Consciously follow lab EHS standard to assure safe daily operations
- Proactively prepare the equipment and lab setup necessary for the R&D activities

- San Joseのチームと密接に協働し、京都ラボで開発した技術を導入する上で必要な設計や仕様を洗い出す。テクニカルなディスカッションに積極的に参加し、高品質なレポートをグローバルR&Dチームと共有することで、チーム全体へ貢献する。
- ラボでのEHS基準を意識しながら、安全に日々の業務を行う

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Ph.D. in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field with experience in batteries and battery materials; or MS degree in science and engineering with a minimum of 4 years of industrial experience in the battery industry
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to determine root causes of issues
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within a diverse team
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of safe chemical handling and experience in following laboratory practices
- 材料科学、化学工学、その他関連領域において博士課程を修了し、電池やその材料について経験がある、もしくは理学や工学分野において修士課程を修了し、産業界において電池分野に4年以上の経験がある

PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES
• Proven experience in Lithium-ion battery research or development
• Track record of working in a global team using English as a common language

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Work is performed in a dry room, fume hood, lab area, or glovebox requiring the use of fine motor skills
