Description:

You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team and be accountable for aspects of electrode design. You will be proficient in all technical aspects of the electrode designs and interact frequently with R&D, cell engineering, pilot line, and manufacturing teams, along with external component suppliers.

Your responsibilities will include supporting the design, development, and characterization of sophisticated cathode materials as well as helping transition research projects into pilot production. This role is inherently hands-on in lab and requires a strong understanding of data analysis and materials science.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop new cathode formulations for high energy density batteries
  • Develop process requirements with engineering data and technical analysis
  • Design and execute experiments to enable process scale-up
  • Communicate with vendors for cathode materials
  • Conduct design feasibility analysis for new products

Minimum requirements:

Experience and education

  • Bachelors in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or Materials Science, or a closely related field and 5+ years of relevant experience in a similar role OR Master's and 3+ years of relevant experience OR Ph.D.

Skills & abilities knowledge:

  • Ability to effectively communicate with all levels in the organization; clearly and logically able to convey ideas and thought processes, both verbally and in writing
  • Equally effective working independently and as part of a team
  • Deep understanding of electrochemical metrics and analytical techniques including DC and AC tests. Good understanding of XRD, SEM, FIB (Focused Ion Beam) instrumentation & material characterization techniques
  • Strong understanding of safety and thermochemical measurements, testing, fabrication and process optimization

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading a team and/or project
  • Successfully leading the development of complex technical products for high volume production
  • Experience with Statistical Process Control, Six Sigma, Lean Manufacturing, and Design for Manufacturability
  • Familiarity with statistical software, e.g. JMP and/or Python
  • Comprehensive expertise in cell design and electrochemistry

This position is required to perform these above essential duties and responsibilities onsite at our QS offices.

Compensation & Benefits: Salary range for this role is between $123,700 and $198,000, and a final salary will be determined by the candidate's experience and educational background. QuantumScape also offers an annual bonus and a generous RSU/Equity package as part of its compensation plan. In addition, we do offer a tremendous benefits plan including employee paid health care, Employee Stock Purchase Plan (ESPP), and other exciting perks.
